I have an issue with starting the game after installing this client.

1. I have java 7 update 51 - the latest according to the java page
2. I download the updater and let it do its thing
3. I get notifications about unsigned content bla-bla that I turn off from javacpl.exe in the main java folder
4. I see a Salem folder in the right spot and that's it - nothing happens further on
5. The shortcut on desktop does the same thing over and over again

Ideas and suggestion how to make this work will be highly appreciated.

i had the same problem. What I did was deleted the salem folder, the .salem folder, deleted the Java cache folder in locallow and the windows temp folder and it worked.

merrymaidmarian wrote:my current problem is that the client does not show the player names of those I have kinned over their head. Sometimes it does. It does when someone has a text balloon over their head in area chat. There is only one guy, I kinned him in the beginning of the game, that still has his name visible to me all the time. I kinned him on day one, random neighbor. He is now glued to a stall in Boston, seems he afk'd there the past 2 days. All other people only have visible names while speaking in area chat.

apart from that, the only way I can get this client to work, is by first installing lat's client (which crashes for me), and then installing enders.
If I remove all user data, and only install enders, it will not start.

Had an issue with ender's client checking for updates in the top left and then closing after finishing checking updates without loading the game. I did the same thing as you, installed lat's client. But instead, I deleted the salem folder in C:/users/name/Salem and then re-downloaded ender's updater.jnlp again. It worked after that, thanks.

After doing a 2nd test on my laptop, where i was experiencing the same issue, I think other than deleting the salem and .salem folders, deleting the content of the java cache folder (user\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache) solved the issue both times.

Hope this helps others as well. Feel free to report success/failure.

Some experimentation with player names not showing over their heads, suggests it has to do with lighting effects (and possibly smoke animations from things like coal clamps)
If I am out in the wilderness, I can see names above players just fine.
In Boston, also, they work fine.
But, as soon as I am in my town, or anywhere near active animation / light effects, the player names disappear, and only show briefly, when someone has a area chat text balloon over their head. As soon as the balloon disappears, the names disappear too.
Please fix this, this is a very serious problem. I cannot identify players.

EDIT: also, combat damage numbes do not show under the same conditions as for player names.

There's two folders; users/username/salem and users/username/.salem

Since you deleted /salem after installing lat's, I guess the data that ender's client needs from lat's client, to be able to run, is located in /.salem

Just last night, I started having a problem logging in. I run on a Mac, and have been using Ender's client for over a year. This problem is new.

I tried deleting and reinstalling, but no success.

The program spends a long time on the dropbox screen loading, then I get "Unable to launch the application" error box.

The error top line says: "Cannot find cached resource for URL: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/187 ... pdater.jar"
Then the detail is:
java.io.IOException: Cannot find cached resource for URL: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/187 ... pdater.jar

at com.sun.javaws.Main.access$000(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:744)

For what its worth, I also tried running it on my Windows partition. Prior to last night, this had been working fine for ages as well. As of last night, though, I started having problems like those mentioned a few posts up this thread (long time at downloading updates window in upper left corner, then nothing happens). I tried the solutions posted above (deleting Salem folder, Java Cache, Windows Temp folder, etc.) but no luck.

I welcome any suggestions.
Thanks
Bigneck

UPDATE: Problem solved. So I got the Updater.jar file from the Github link and it seems to be working fine now (on my Mac partition, haven't tried the windows partition yet). Not sure why I didn't try that before....
