If they have significantly improved the ease into the game with the new skill and gluttony system, we will see more people hang around longer. I think the latest world reset of Haven saw 1500+ people during peak hours, but now it stays under 400-500.

IDK, I think it's normal for a game to lose majority of players in the newbie stage, no matter how much it holds their hands. The high attrition rate among people who play long enough to figure out how the game works seems more worrisome to me.

Just look at the enthusiasm in these comments.

Lol, i say 700 first week, 100 after third month of no updates

You mean 100 after the constant griefing

This.
Unless they changed some mechanics to make it harder for raiders to freely raze and steal, and easier for people to defend their homesteads (like, applying castle doctrine and being able to defend their home without leaving scents) it will always end there.

All they need to add is this viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8539#p112584 and siege will work great.

Well I think the problem lies in the lack of cammraderie. Obviously one person should not be able to build defences to withstand a 20 people attack and I think that is reflected in the game. The problem arises in the fact that other than the people that just kill for fun, no one else bands to work together. The division tends to run along the hardcore casual players spectrum, where the latter group has literally no chance of surviving in the game.

And, you know, in a very natural selection kind of way it makes perfect sense. Casual players are less productive than their hardcore counterparts, put less time and effort. As such, they are seen as inefficient by the hardcore players and they don't want to share their work production with them. Slowly, just as in nature, the hardcore players are the only who remain, since they are the only ones who can form a group and work together, the rest are pruned away and they have no chance of making it on their own.

yeah I agree, that would seem a very reasonable change to me.

But then I've always thought haven/salem would be a much better game if made distinctions between killing innocents and killing criminals. But I'm sure most people who agree with me never got into the game, leaving the community full of people who strongly disagree and like the current anarchy (a lawless might makes right system).

Also if I remember/interpreted correctly seatribe also prefer anarchy so its kind of a pointless debate anyway, I just accept that I cannot avenge the deaths or poor noobs without the gamerules deciding that I too am guilty of equal crime. and may aswell be a criminal myself since thats the way jorbtar want you to play the game.

you know i really must be honest here, i'm not too enthused about the wipe. i completely understand that salem's a really active-grind kinda game, the people who can put in the most time and manage that time the most efficiently will end up ruling the server, so long as they have a decent population in their group to boot.

unless all these retarded newbies gang up in to some ridiculously bloated settlement (which in itself would fail, right there, because idiots don't mesh well) the same people that ended up ruling the servers originally will rule them again. i have no doubt to darwoth's power (well, actually i'm curious how he's gonna do it without the imba pumpkins and cabbages and such) as well as the chief's group/power/commitment to the game.

as much as i'd like to see the anti-treaty group win (partly because i feel salem shouldn't be owned by one guild/clan/faction) i'm gonna confess that i don't see it happening.

so when that wipe comes around, i'm gonna get in, test some, maybe set up my autistic carebear shack because i just don't have the energy to compete, and inevitably quit because the life of farmville blows ass (but honestly, so does most every other aspect of salem, the crafting-witchcraft mmo, with terrible (imho) crafting and non-existing witchcraft)

i for one welcome our new neckbeard overlords.

Sadly because people prefer to split into small groups, hate each other and fight with other small groups, than share common goal :|
