I use the Windows Firewall and Free AntiVir. Tried to deactivate both and logging in again. Tried to deactivate any Security in Java. No difference - crashes.
I have a Speedport W720v as Router. No internal Firewall activated found in the Settings. Just get the Error Message in Salem (Normal & Ender Client) sometimes:

java.lang.NullPointerException
at haven.HavenPanel.run(HavenPanel.java:408)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

The weird thing is that it worked at beginning all fine on my other two PC Systems. We must find a way to fix it, or this fantastic game would be useless for me =(

You wouldn't happen to be German would you? I just noticed some of the foreign language in your error report. I also remembered that another group of German players are experiencing near identical problems.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried these offline versions of the clients:

Yes im from Germany. I think theres a big Problem to some Connection of Salem in Germany when i read the other Thread. Some of the off Salems doesnt work on 64bit Systems.
This happens when i start the other Off Salems:

Let me reiterate (and forgive the bold, but I'm trying to get the point across):

Make sure to use the default client to troubleshoot.

This is so that loftar gets any error reports generated by the client. This also assures us that problems aren't being caused by extra code in the other clients.

I seem to recall another issue from back on the Haven forums about a specific router brand/model having issues with connections. I don't know if that issue has long since been resolved, still an issue, or what other possibilities there might be. I'm not even sure if I can find the post. (Think I recall who figured it out, but I could be very wrong.)

edit: I *think* this is the thread I was thinking of: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/vie ... lit=router. Maybe not. Specifically, a "T-Online" router is mentioned. Only thing is that this was causing hangs and disconnects, not straight out crashes.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

forgive the bold, but I'm trying to get the point across:

THANK YOU MagicMan !!!

After 14 Days of testing every Day something new i think we finally found the Problem. I never before had to open ports for a game in my Router Configuration, tried just to Opening the Right Ports (UDP 1870 TCP 1871) like its written in that Thread. And - BAM - It works :D i can go to Boston, Home, Houses - Logins - No crashes. Just sometimes the Client freezes, but it takes bout 20 sec to reconnect then :D
So every German who reads this Thread and has a Router Speedport w720 Series: Try to open ports if it crashes on more PC Systems.

I hope this finally will stay this way and it will work this way forever =)

Thanks again =)

A nullpointerexception is where the mouse clicks in a erronous area. Hence, I believe the error is the house you enterred was not fully loaded and you clicked. Wait until the house is fully loaded until you start moving. (I didn't read the rest of the thread, I'm probablly late with this.)

That's not what a nullpointerexception is. A nullpointerexception is what you get when you try to use a null (unset or non-existent) value at inappropriate times - i.e. trying to get the length of a null value rather than an array. While it is possible the nullpointerexception in this case was thrown due to clicking in the wrong place (I don't know how the code is written and don't care enough to look), it is at best an example of how it can be thrown in the game. But moreover, it seems unlikely that the exception was thrown as a result of the click - especially given that the issue has been solved already and was due to ports being closed in a certain router. If I were to guess, I'd say the null pointer was the result of the game trying to access server data through the closed port, getting no response, and trying to use a null value rather than the appropriate one. But again, I haven't looked at the code.

I have to assume you were trolling, in which case, that was perhaps the most awesome and believable (fake) description of a nullpointerexception I have heard - if I wasn't a programmer (and specifically, a java programmer) I might have bought it.

This seems to affect more Speedport models, opening the ports helped on a 500 series Speedport as well.
