There should never be any items in the game that can no longer be made in the game, silver shop items excluded. Because of legacy humus the alchemy system which doesn't really work hasn't been a problem, because you just grind trees with legacy humus. If it were an actual problem, we'd have a proper implementation of alchemy much sooner.

Legacy or non-legacy items there will always be someone who spends more time, understands game mechanics better, fights better, etc...than you.

Candy gang, the tribe, darwoth et al earned their positions on each server. The question at hand is of they are only able to maintain that advantage bc of legacy humus or because other people are too lazy to try and match them. I think it's a lot of the later (laziness) and only a small amount of the former (legacy).

The presence of legacy gives laziness a convenient excuse. However, it's pretty ridiculous that no matter how much time I invest there are items I can't attain bc I didn't start playing until after the purity nerf.

If jorbtar's game vision includes pure items then the alchemy system needs fixed so others have a chance to catch up. I'm ok working hard and long to attain pure humus. And I'm ok that darwoth, candy gang, tribe etc...will still have a head start. They worked hard for that head start, I just want game mechanics that provide an opportunity to work hard and try to catch up.

Loftar mentioned you two were discussing how many updates to include along with the gluttony rework.

What all is in the realm of possibility?

Essential fact of gaming - everyone wants a fighting chance

Simple.

I like Salem

1. Exploring
2. Challenging mechanics

But the absolute reality is that no matter how hard I work (hours spent in game) I can never measure up to ""Legacy"" folks and I live at their sufferance is an 'absolute' detractor. I'm not opposed to Perma Death. Reality today is new, recent players do NOT have a fighting chance.

It's not a matter of grinding. If purity system had not changed...and I lived long enough... I could eventually get to the point I could have a 'fighting' chance; but the rules were changed and the legacy material was not removed. Best regular humus I have seen on 3 servers is 15% for any purity... boards are never >25% using post patch materials/mechanics. While Legacy stuff is still at 100%? (sure some is lesser but you get the gist).

Vets have had a great run; time to level the playing field. Regrettably that will require a full and complete wipe of all characters. Past time to close the silver shop and prep the community for a wipe... then do it. It's not enough just to wipe material in storage.

Also need to do something about the map matrix used by so many... require at least a 15s login or something before map renders or something along those lines. Suppose they could still do it; but it would take days vs hours. Another idea is to auto-port toons that lose their lean-too back to boston on login automatically. No more placing it and forgetting about it... when lean-too disappears from decay... alt takes map data from 'Boston'...

Even better- auto wipe toons <10 humors every 3 months. Seriously... how long does it take to level any one humor to 10... an hour at worst?

I think your 'original player base' has been rewarded enough. Time for a change.

A wipe would be the only reason for me to start playing again.

The game at it's current state is just not good enough to keep me playing, even if they introduce a big new patch.

I have 1 or 2 titans myself, but I really would not care if all the progress is lost, new people have no way in getting where we are, even less with the upcoming patch.
There's nothing more to do if you achieved almost everything, there's no really rare items, we already own all the dev-items, there's no new places to discover, nobody (except you) to fear from, nothing to look out for, no achievents to complete,.... I also prefer 1 server with 100 people over 3 empty server.

A wipe would be very interesting with current politics, new alliances will rise, more backstabbing & butthurt-ery, all on 1 jolly big server !!

All that will happen is the chief and everyone else who is on a similar level will get back to that level way before you or anyone else would as the reason they are at that level in the first place is cause they have a good understanding of how the game works and as a result can use that knowledge to get to the top ridiculously quicker than you could.
I think I have a hat problem.

Knowing how to do it is like 5% of success, the rest is plain old grind. Of course, a wipe won't suddenly make the industrious lazy and the lazy industrious.

How do you know this? Not much information has been released about the new gluttony system aside from that screen shot. Do you see something in it that no one else does? Because from what I can see, it looks like having legacy humus won't be an advantage at all as it will only affect one or two categories of food and this new system seems geared towards making people eat from many categories. Otherwise, as far as that picture reveals, it might be routine to get a character above 500 with the new system, something that takes huge effort now, even with legacy humus... or not.

As for the current titans, they are only feasible because waste claims exist, and they are only necessary because walls and braziers are so strong. Before those changes, no one made a character much over 150 because it did not confer a big enough advantage in comparison to the risks and effort. Once you realize this, you see that a wipe isn't at all necessary to 'level' the playing field. Like it can be leveled. Lazy people will always be lazy and industrious ones will always be industrious.
