Very acceptable, but you might want to image the scaled down version. ;)

Both Ven and Tycho are/were pretty awesome. He's like this strange mix of magician, alchemist and astronomer living in a star spangled castle on a mystical island. Fairy tale material. :)

Not to run it off topic, but aren't the Dutch the ones responsible for instigating the slave trade from Africa to the New World?

To change topic (hope this isn't too far off base on waxing nostalgic): If anyone hasn't read it, "The Baroque Cycle" by Neil Stephenson is a good read. It consists of three books: "Quicksilver," "The Confusion," and "The System of the World." Each is a hefty read, but he did a lot of research and fact checking to make sure his historical figures appeared correctly. (At least, it looks good from where I stand as an uneducated idiot when it comes to details of history.) One of the best side stories in it is of Newton and Leibniz. The stories follow the intertwining tale of what starts off to be three strangers and all the associated cast of characters, and then starts simmering them all together for an interesting ending that alludes to some interesting statements on modern government and society.

I know we've had 2 big companies trading companies, the VOC and the WIC (slaves)

The WIC departed slaves to Curaçao.

They ended up with around 5% out of the total slaves to Amerika, but at first their share was bigger up to 15%-20%.

The Portuguese were the first to establish colonies in Africa well before Columbus crossed the Atlantic as waypoints for their trading ships to the Indies. The Dutch weren't far behind. Some wars ensued, trade routes, etc traded hands, blah blah blah. The African slave trade didn't really get started until early-mid 17th century if I recall right (sorry, haven't bothered to look up exact dates and information, so I may be talking out my ass here. ) The only well-established colonies in the new world were Spanish, and they had a generous supply of labor via the native populations.

The English, on the other hand, never had any naval military might, at least compared to the Dutch, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and other powers of the N and W European seas. They had some strong wins because they promoted their good privateers in the navy instead of just giving away titles and stations to anyone that had enough money. (Thus, the defeat of the Spanish armada in the English Channel by one Captain Drake while using a vastly "inferior" force of ships.)

----
I was thinking the Dutch had captured their ports in Africa from the Portuguese, but as I had to double check something, I saw they were a lease from Lisbon initially, and that is how they got involved so heavily in it along with Sweden, Denmark, and English. (The Dutch did eventually capture the port, but that wasn't until nearly 100 years later.)

As an aside, leave it to the Christians to take an established, decent practice and turn it into a vulgarity on inhumanity and indecency.... (sorry to break the nostalgia, but has to be said)
