Wilderness of Roanoke

HI all... I am new to Salem and playing on Roanoke. I have spent the last 3 years at P-World and find everything about this game completely addicting, refreshing and quite fun. As for the perma-death??? i'll cry like a baby when my character dies i'm sure... lol ... anyhow, I have been making daily progress, and reading wiki and these forums like crazy to grasp it all. my homestead is really progressing nicely, as are my skills but i'm still light years from being anything of importance. so to my question:

I could play on like this a long time, all is good. BUT >>> I was more interested in joining a larger community and not the solitary path. does anyone know how I might go about this or maybe some suggestions to move me along?
