[Roanoke] Raided this morning

Postby steeldragonz » Thu Dec 20, 2012 5:38 pm

Thanks to the guys that decided to raid my place and take everything and leave my stuff all over the place, i dont much mind losing most of the skins/hides/leather i was about to sell but the 30 iron bars i was saving up to build things annoys me slightly. and fact that its now happened once and the sheer amount of granite/wood im going to need to finish fencing my place in is going to be in the mid hundreds i dont think im going to bother, well considering i'd managed to build my place in 3 weeks i guess its not a huge loss.

But the defense of a claim mechanic sucks ass either you have a tiny claim and just do everything outside it [farm/coal/wood/gardening] or you have to play 24/7 to get the resources to build the defense you need.

either way i guess i will be playing less if at all now, so hope you enjoyed all the inspirationals and iron bars .. oh and the couple of chests you obviously needed to take to carry it all off in.

Oh, what a pity. Hopefully you can overcome this and finish the walls:)

i would like to get the walls finished, as i have braizer forging [what the iron bars where going to be used for now [got it last night]. but finding about 400 granite right now doesnt interest me anymore. stone wasnt an issue as i was using the stones locally and the all 10-11 dross i was producing every 40 minutes.

Fact is to do it now feels pointless as the people that raided my place know where it is now, and will just be back evenutally. so why bother with the amount of time im now going to have to spend doing nothing but granite hunting. Atleast before i could hunt other stuff make inspirationals and do whatever else, now i would need to get my get my forge back up and running [2-3 bars per/40mins isnt bad, but i was using the bars i was making now for inspirations] and i was hoping to have had a windmill up by end of the week. Either way... for now im not going to pay anything more into the upkeep on my claim. Atleast until i make a decision on if im going to play anymore. i dont mind perma-death, i do mind not being able to defend mystuff.

You should chalk this up to a learning experience. You should never stockpile 30 iron without having solid walls. Even then, you should understand that any developed raider can walk through your walls and take your stuff anyway. Which is to say, just don't stockpile 30 iron. Whenever I get close to 15 iron, I just start turning them into lockets (which I then use, don't stockpile those either). If you have a building project you don't have all the mats for, partially build it, and add to it as you get the materials. You can still be griefed, but at least you arn't incentivizing people to do it.

As for the building of the walls, it's really not hard. I recommend you invest in a sled. And maybe a stamp mill ;).

BTW, you are aware there are granite stones, yes?

yes im aware, the only constant source i had was about a 5-10minute walk over a river, and i just need 2 rope to finish making my sled. rationalizing it as you tried to there still wouldnt of changed the fact that needing 3 layers of walls [not just the one] and then brazier and torches or whatever, takes an insane amount of resources and i had the first wall about a 1/3 done and had been putting material into the other projects as well, so not a learning experience if i already knew this. its simple fact that even tho from when i started and having done my reading up on the game in the first place to know this stuff, there isnt any reasonable way to defend you stuff when you start.

You have to get better or just quit, that's what it boils down to. If you really had to make iron bars and not use them then you should have vaulted them. 2 altvaults would have taken a few minutes to make and would mean you still have your iron bars.

so effectively play you need to run a ton of chars just to hold items, understandably that is a good solution and a pain in the ass, then the reason you are encouraged to do this is because increased accounts increase the chances of people buy from the cashshop i guess then.

You don't absolutely need a seperate account although i think it is well worth having 2 accounts so you can be logged in with 2 characters.
