I thought someone stole my sawbuck once but i'd just left it outside the claim overnight and it had decayed.

this might have been me, you didnt put all of it on your claim did you? ill be happy to give it back if you come collect it

And yes, wasn't entirely on my claim, as I built it prior to making my claim.

No, at work currently, and honestly, not a huge deal, as I built a new one already on my claim. Hope you get good use out of it

He didn't steal it, he was simply stopping it from decaying for you. Deserves a good Samaritan reward IMO, something on the order of a Sawbuck.
