There are a lot of places that lack braziers and are just poorly constructed around Darwoth's general area, so I suspect he's not as bad a guy as we make him out to be :P Who knows.

And as they slowly lime their hides and fill their boxes with leather, Darwoth waits for the loot to reach a respectable level... and he watches, polishing his sword by the night fire.

^^ I lol'd

It's a good point, though. Save up until you can build up a solid defense in a day or two. Building it up piecemeal is just screaming "Raid me now and drive me out before I become too big to be raided."

Make your walls in such a fashion that it appears to be a previously raided base, complete with degrading equipment. And so you appear to be a lone squatter of no means worth attention. When you are ready to build braiziers, finish your walls and tada!

Ok, let me spell this out so you understand: How many braziers for an area of 100m2 (Or whatever the squares are.)
Example Is 10 braziers on 400 m2 enough to keep a mildly interested raider out? That equals 0,025 brazier per m2 btw.

Holes in walls = people running in to kill you
Not worth the trouble? You would be suprized how little trouble it is for some people.

Town claim + makeshift fence (all around) + no stockpiling + crappy base = less worth
It would cost them a waste claim to attack your makeshift fence just to harrass you.

Divide The area (A) of your claim by the value in silver of the items and structures inside (V) this gives you the chance that you will not be raided represented by they symbol :D . Of course, the higher the number :D the better you're off.
(A/V= :D )

Now take the number :D and multiply by the number of braziers on your claim (<8) but subtract the amount of possible high % hummus compost bins ($) inside. This gives you your safety value against raiders hitting your base ( :x ). Any negative representation of this number means absolute certainty of being raided.
(( :D x <8) - $ = :x )

finally multiply the number :x by the number of people playing the game at the moment as determined by the button above called 'Server status' represented by the symbol ¦] . This number is how many tears ( ) you will cry after your claim is "Town Belled" by someone with 2500s because they simply wanted to make room in their merchant's purse.
( :x x ¦] = )

(A/V= :D ) then (( :D x <8) - $ = :x ) then ( :x x ¦] = )

So technically Alloin is right. Complete safety is only achieved by placing 1 braizier for every m2 of your claim.
The short answer Daegir is the more the merrier, but town bell your base when you can. With 979 posts how do you not know this answer already.

I never could aspire to the advanced mathematics you demonstrate even if I wrote 1000 posts. Thank you.

PS: How would anyone know how good your humus is without breaching?

When high level characters breach your stone walls like stick fences and destroy your braziers with 3 quick hits, they call it "Testing the Hummus", as in "Let's test the hummus at this base." :D
