Primarily, of course, resettling and getting the infrastructure going again, which is by far what I've enjoyed in the game. Secondarily, to enact vengeance, as I'm a very vindictive person. However, to quote what a friend of mine said about the game after quitting - "there's too much stick and not enough carrot." There really isn't enough to do once you get to a certain point, and logging in at that point is just to keep the upkeep going - harvest the fields, sell your goods, feed your claims. That entire portion of the game is what led to the town claim expiring and us not really caring about this.
We'll see.
Thank you for clearing up where the scents came from. That seems like much more of a raid, and your vengeance would be justified. I can't really figure out what Knuckles (The Candy Queen) is saying. It sounds like the raider that hit you may have been friendly with the Queen's allies, and/or also been a Russian spy. It may be this single person you're looking for, and you can just go after him rather than declare war on the whole Candy gang. You know what he looks like at least thanks to Azor. If it's the guy who's been demanding iron in the area, then more power to you.
As to making the game more interesting. PVP, Rangering and Political raiding seems to be the final step in Salem. Newb raiding is useless and just leads to them collecting free evidence against yourself and some newb killing you later when you're offline. You could pick a side to play with, or Play Detective and Ranger for newbs (like me), or just start hitting towns in the general area of the NNW and bring along a piece of evidence to drop on Lean to's and homesteads until you eventually find/summon the guy. At that point justice would be served.

As the river rolled over the cliffs, my own laughing joy was drowned out by the roaring deluge of the water. The great cataract of Darwoth's Tears fell over and over endlessly.
