Yes, please back on topic. I want to know how much did the Russians lose here, because it looks like a lot. I don't know what it takes to townbell a claim, I just know it can be done. Did it really cost 7k silver? And will the profits from the raid cover that expense or was this done at a loss purely for the strategic value of weakening them?

Town bell and requires town authority of 2s per tile to be "reclaimed". If the target claim is 2500 tiles, then the town needs at least 5000 authority to revoke the personal claim. Since the town only starts with 750 authority (if I recall right), that's quite a few authority objects, and 2500 tiles is still a relatively small claim if more than a few people are living there.

(Sorry for the additional derail. Easier to just make a quick answer for anyone wondering than leaving it open.)

2500 tiles is not even enough for a hermit if you want enough space to actually have some sort of production.

It was an example size useful only for the nice round numbers. 2500 tiles is still more than a typical hermit is going to need, though.

Not if they use 4x4 farms and want any sort of wood production.

Kind of agree here, a good size for a hermit, who wants a good sized 4x4 farm land, smelter, safe storage for coal and a few wood piles your looking @ about 6000 tiles imho.

However, this can be reduced massivly, by having a mine entrance inside your base, building coal clumps / farms inside mines etc, also if you use 1x1 fields + build inside a mine, you can reduce a hermit size to about <1000 tiles and build massively inside the mine.
