Kaol wrote:trouble is the way the game works now,

a) you need a base with lots of farms to build up characters, this takes time
b) since defenses are paper, if your base location is known it can be destroyed in minutes
c) anyone can create an alt and pretend to be on your side while having huge power to destroy your whole operation
d) if you somehow manage to get some characters and kill one of the enemy, he will just come to your base when you are offline and kill you plus destroy your base

Sounds like security through obscurity is the way to go if you're still building forces.

Props to the OP for sticking his neck out. I really do admire the initiative (Plymouth needs moar factions!). Sadly I don't see how building a big base and announcing its location and members to the world is a winning strategy.

I'm sure he has already rectified that. Guy just needed a scribe is all.

I suspect that people aiming to become a faction are trying that on other servers.

Why not just pay the cheif? If the cheif is one thing its honest and if he is two things, he is just. His treaty payments are trivial for anyone using there claim to to even 50% of what its worth, so just pay the man and rest easy.

If he can restrict his use of power to collect taxes and punish criminals effectively I cants see why not. If he steps out of those bounds he either get a pretty empty server or a rebellion.

The server is already pretty empty. If a new faction is to be started, don't bash it. Let it happen, and what happens, happens.

Its also a good way to keep things interesting. and people sticking around in the server if they see that other factions are active. People this way, will be less likely to create a character, and see hardly anyone around, and then just swap servers for a more active one.

He's a griefer, you might prolong your life by paying him taxes but once there are no soft targets left you will either see his demands get more strict or ridiculous or he'll call off the truce. Only thing that will save Plymouth is cross-server travel (soft targets elsewhere, might eventually kill off the game though) or the dominant faction getting bored (with the new dominant faction being less griefy).

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought of this.

I've also noticed a significant drop in chiefs activity already.

Point is we need a couple factions around to keep it from getting to that point, or to the point of a faction becoming bored and getting inactive. Kind of hard to stay interested if all you can do s slay noobs who can't pay bills, and just decide to try another server instead. Either way, one thing that was apparent in HnH and will be true here is the russians vs. the world type deal. Heard they were already taking over one server by themselves, and when character transfers happen. You can bet there will be a pretty decent fight then.

The Chief will be at this meeting. You will not see him... You will not hear him. But he will see and hear you. I caution all who attend to re-read Article VII of the Treaty that has been agreed upon by your people. A patriot or a martyr for a just cause is a thing that the Chief would admire and take seriously. This, however, is neither and is simply an act of Treason against those that both protect and reward you for the steps we have taken in bringing our two cultures together. That is all.

It's a bad idea to start gathering an army through forums. The leader of any project like this should have an experience in combat, consequently, he should know other players who are actually good in this and could help. The rebelion should have started from PMing the leaders of the raided towns first, seeing how many people can and willing to follow the project leader. Moreover, naturally, the friends of the people who already joined could join as well. Any organization is based on trust – you cannot trust anyone on the forum.
