Though I am not totally new to this game, I thus far never really felt the necessity of boiling things like mushrooms. However as bark is now a useful item in the game and needs to be boiled first (if I understood correctly) I would like to know what I need to start boiling stuff. Could someone please enlighten me what kind of skills and items are required to start boiling stuff?

You need a campfire and a clay pot. Clay pot can be made from 5 clay. You then have to fire the pot in fire - open the campfire like a container, put unburnt pot inside and wait. It may fail.

When you have burnt pot you can select it and right click campfire - pot will be placed over the fire.

So if I understand you correctly you need clay to make a pot, so you need the pottery skill and be able to make clay. Will take quite some time to get there I guess, not to mention all the silver for making the structures and buying the nails.

You don't need the pottery skill. Also put water in your bot before boiling stuff.

How does one get clay then? You need to mix earth with water for that right?

You can find clay pits on the map then just dig.
