Anyone used a fish-trap yet?

Postby freshbread » Sat Feb 22, 2014 4:25 am

I just built a fish-trap and a bit confused how it works. Right now, I put bait in the trap and then put it in the water. I dont know if its working or not. Does anyone have experience using one?

The stuff you put in it will eventually disappear. It's unlikely you will catch a fish.

What you put in it affects which types of fish will be eligible to catch, and the abundance of those fish in the area you put the trap in affects in turn how many you'll catch.

You need to put it in deep water.

Thank you for clearing up that confusion.

You need to put it in deep water.

Deep as in water you need swimming to get into? Or far away from the shore in shallow water?

My friend put 10 berries into one last night, today i find 1 shin spinner and no berries so looks like a big trade off for 1 fish.

I guess that means shin spinners were rare in that area, or that berries are not the ideal food for catching them. What kind of berries?

Someone should start logging this, it looks like it could become quite complex.

Also thanks Loftar.

Last night I put a waxing mushroom, a chestnut, a blackberry and a wood chip in a trap, and this morning I got a gold pickerel out of it. So yeah, it seems they're quite worthwhile if you pick the right spot and bait.

What are the advantages of the various fish mentioned in this thread?

Items you can only get from fish (isenglass), easy early variety foods. I forget what else. It's just advantages of fishing in general.
