Removing mountain tiles

Postby Tokimer » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:37 am

I was wondering if its at all possible to remove those mountainous areas?
Thing is It's in the way of my wall-building, since I need to raise the area a bit to get it even, and I cant seem to do that on the mountain terrain...
I know I can dig there by getting quarry, but Ive tried some now, and I'd like to know if someone knows this or not, before I dig a hole to China :-P

If you are playing alone, I recommended you to find a more flatened spot to start your settlement. Since a one-man terraforming project is going to takes a lot of effort.

Not what I asked for, and the terraforming is done, except for the mountain terrain (if I want to expand with more walls later on). Also, camp is/was set up already.
But yes, a flat area helps in regards to terraforming :-P

what are you referring to as "mountain terrain"? are we talking ridges (the little cliffs) or the stone node areas (http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Terrain/Quarries/Stone)?
Yes, I'm new; no, I didn't play Haven; but yes, I do get it :p

Ridges can be removed, but it's really not something that's easy or efficient to explain with text alone. Wonder if zack or eegore have a video on it.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Im afraid it is not possible to terraform such a terrain.
When you try to dig it you will just dig a stone boulder and assuming this terrain works like lime quarries you cant throw some dirt on it to make it change into dirt.
Also, if I remember correctly you cannot build anything on mountain terrain but Ive tried this last world and am not sure if still works this way.

Someone had posted a trick to slowly turn these tiles into dirt. It was on the Paradox forums before the restart. I don't think anyone had ever checked to see if the dirt tiles revert to what they were or if they turn to grass. Either way, it made the ground both diggable and buildable.

edit: it was questioned whether it was a bug or intended with the reasoning being the former due to the restrictions of attempting to terraform near special terrains.

Loftar confirmed it's a bug. It's done by abusing the Ctrl+drop dirt placement mechanic.

Does this still work then? And if so, do you happen to have a link to that thread? :-P
Just ctrl-dropping dirt as usual does not work atleast.
