I know that foraging is like one of the first things you learned, but I keep seeing references to turning it on. Once you learn it, isn't 'on' all the time? If not, how do you turn it on?

Forage is a movement mode, unlocked when you get the Foraging skill. There's a movement button in the main menu, look there for it.

it also has a "cost"; using it drains phlegm(?)...

There are 4 movement speeds/searching types. Normal, Foraging(Slowest move speed + best foraging ability), Wandering (Faster movement +lesser foraging) and Running (Fastest movement + lowest foraging ability). Hope this helps.

Wandering (Faster movement +lesser foraging)

Not as in you find less things when wandering, but it's a lesser version of the foraging buff. You still find more stuff wandering than normal walking.

one thing that has confused me with the Wander movement mode (my preferred mode at the moment for treking to find a claim spot) is the description mentions if draining blood and phlegm... but I've never noticed it actually draining blood. Is that a recent change or a bug?

Wander should drain blood, if it doesn't then it's a bug.

It definetely does drain it, its a lot less than phlegm though.

hmm... guess it's not draining enough blood to show before I have to top up the phlegm by eating... good to know thanks
