Beginner's tips for base defense...

Hello everyone. For the past month I have been having a lot of fun with a thief character. I worked this toon up while doing other things, and found myself with someone who had Larceny, but very low humours. I expected to have little success in my meanderings looking for trouble with humours <20, but to my surprise, I have been quite successful! Since starting, I have been able to not only raise my humours much higher on stolen food, but have been able to raise another character to Larceny! Every step of the way, every base I have been able to hit, has been due to the complete laziness, or idiocy of the owners. Thus this guide. I am hoping to take my new found knowledge of the crime system, and give some no brainer pointers to the newbs of Salem. Let me just start by saying, I in no way consider myself to be an expert. The things I have learned have been through forum prowling and experimentation. If you notice I have said something in error, Please do not simply troll, but add some pertinent information.
So with out further delay, Let me present you with a short but sweet guide to WHAT NOT TO DO with base design.
Now this is not really fair, as the shot was taken before the latest patch. Now that they have added the Makeshift Fence, no noob should be caught without some kind of protection. Believe it or not, this guy had 2 chests of logs, charms, and many other inspirationals that went along way towards getting this petty thief off the ground.
Ok, this one blew my mind. Theses guys have farms, a mine, and a smelter with a bunch of boxes inside this wooden fence. Now first, if you can make a wooden fence, you can make a stone one. One will protect you from a wide range of roving miscreants, one will protect you from only the most noobish of thieves. When you DO build a wall, please spend the extra 40s to ensure that your walls are on your claim. This was after the patch increased the toughness of walls, and had they been on the claim, it would have made this heist take more time than it would probably have been worth.
This one is my favorite. Now compaired to a lot of pro's out there, this operation seems quite small. This claim was pretty nice though, as it is all inclusive. Farms, mine, smelter. Everything a budding newb needs to thrive. Now, as you can see they went as far as building a single brazier to defend this homestead. However, you can also see that the claim is quite long, and the brazier did not even begin to cover all of the walls on this base. Thus, I was able to breach the walls without taking fire from the single brazier, until I was already loaded up with the 1.5 chests of iron bars they had in the house. Now, if you have 35 or so Iron in a chest in your house, You should damn well have enough braziers to cover your walls. Remember, A brazier has a range of around 23 tiles, I stick to about 20 to be safe. In this particular case, these 2 guys both popped in later each wearing the doctor masks. They were clearly advanced enough, and have invested enough time into the claim, to have built some stone walls. People may flame stone walls (Tho less now since they were beefed up) but do not be fooled. These will keep out many a theiving riff raff, leaving you only fearing more powerful opponents.
