Mining Help/Advice.

Postby voidy2 » Sat Jun 30, 2018 1:44 pm

So, I have my lil claim and I'm embracing the troglodyte lifestyle which means the majority of my stuff is underground.
While I was creating the first floor I managed to find the first entrance from f1 to f2 without too much effort. For the last 3 days I've been attempting to locate the entrance from f2 to f3. An ever expanding search pattern has yielded nothing.

My question is:- Am I doing anything wrong? or, is there a direction or pattern I should be using to locate the 'cave down'?.

You have to mine on black tiles. Do not hurry. Let it wait some two weeks.

Iron is never rubbish, you'll need it for everything and anything and in null purity as well.
Exactly 6.022 x 10^23 worth of Lach molecules.

Yes, this.
Essentially the only use of purity metal is knife blade. That you can easily buy from other players.
Purity weapons come from purity whetstones and these you can also buy.

OK ! I apologise for calling low purity iron rubbish I know its needed for lots of things, while I'm online my furnaces are always running to feed my nail habit.

All I actually wanted to know was Is there a way to find the cave downs or is it completely random?. I've just explored a mine on an old claim and it was 6 floors deep and all the cave downs were within 100 tiles, 1 was so close to the stairs that I's probably only took 5 mins to find.

The mine is randomly generated upon creation. Sometimes you will find black tiles close to the entrance, other times you will end up having to go far from the entrance. RnG is all it is.

It took patience, knowledge and some luck to make it happen near the ladder.
I can assure you the chances it took only 5 minutes to find are somewhere around 1 in 30000.
In JC's own words:
JohnCarver wrote:Every cave down starts at something worse than a 1 in 30,000 Hard Rock to find. The more certain things happen, the better those odds get. The farther down levels you go. The worse 'starting' position you are at for the purpose of calculating those odds.

Full discussion here.
There are reasons I told you to wait two weeks before you start mining black tiles.
Note, it is quite possible that you run out of black tiles which are close to the entrance if you try rush things.
