Compost, Worms & Humus

Postby Gustyboy » Thu Jan 25, 2018 12:17 pm

Hi,

I don't understand how exactly the compost bin works.
I understood that humus will inherit the worms purity.
I have several questions to understand it better :

1/ Does the purity of the stuff added to the bin is part of the humus purity, or is it only the worms ?
2/ Does the number of worms influence the quantity of humus produced ?
3/ Does Earthworm Pythons adds something (speed, quantity, purity ?) or is it better to put little worms and keep the earthworms pythons as curios ?
4/ Anything that is not listed in my questions and I should know to optimize my compost bins ?

Thanks a lot !

example.
7 pythons 80% pure in Compost = you will got 80% humus
but if here spawn Earthworm / Python 0% pure, example one 0% Earthworm and here 7 pythons 80% you will got less pure (7*80%+0%)/8 = 70%
if i good remember :P

So, worms doesn't affect speed or quantity of humus produced, only its purity. And as worms can spawn in the bin, the more worms with good purity you have, the more it will mitigate the 0 purity spawns...
And does earthworms are better than little worms or is it better to keep earthworms for curios and only use little worms in bins ?

Worms only

More worms increase the efficiency. If you get efficiency to 100% you'll get the average purity of your worms (pythons carry more weight than earthworms). I believe at 50% efficiency you get half the purity of your worms, but I'm not certain. If more worms spawn, then your average worm purity goes down because new worms spawn at 0%

Pythons occupy less space in the bin and weigh more heavily in the efficiency and purity.

Placement is important, experiment to find the most convenient setup for you!
