As MaxPlanck suggested, people were just using key alts for years and you never had a chance of looting any worthy keys in pvp encounters.
Salem key system was supposed to be a superior one (and in some ways it is), and I don't see any reason to go back, history will just repeat itself and it won't be anything more than a minor annoyance of making key alts.
