I think the best way to begin this game is to research as much as you can before leaving the indian reservation. having some torches with you should help. I might just create a new character but it might be good to know how to delete the old ones as well

Keep them logged into the world and the problem will eventually take care of itself.

Dallane means that if they stay logged in all of the time, then they will accumulate insanity which increases your level of madness, which will eventually result in your character's death.

You will have to manage insanity and madness on your characters in the future, but for the first while you are immune to it. I forget how long, 24 or 48 hours or something like that.

Isn't there an NPC next to church and graveyard in Providence who will quickly dispatch a character for you too.
...The NPC looks like an executioner, he stands in a little nook behind a podium maybe ?
