How does the world end? (?)

So... I went all the way north with my canoe by the sea because I was curious about the darkness and I wanted just to explore and chill a little bit but I reached a place where I can no longer go north even if there seem to be foragin items and animals, is it normal or am I missing something? xD
I thought that going farther I should head to the darkness but idk... Maybe going just north is not enough? I Hope for some clarifications,

(except for a little piece, if that still exsists)
...and darkness is in it's entirety more to the west, there is a circle of "lightness" around provi, that slowly fades in each direction.

And most important, why there are foragebles after the "end" lol?

The game continues to render the world including items and animals past the collision boundaries for some reason, but once you reach the invisible wall then yes the world ends.
