I've never found one, but I think if you throw several single silver pieces in to it, it gives something good back

Yes, after putting silver into it (each well takes a different amount) it gives you a whimsical wish.
You can then use this to wish for
1>Wealth
2>Wisdom
3>Luck
Wealth obviously gives silver, I got 750s from one but can't remember how much I got from other
Wasn't interested in testing the others at the time but I'm also interested in the results of the other wishes.

You can also throw silver in normal wells too, so better not mix them up Also don't they always occur in the same specific biome too? For wishing well that would be Shrub biome.

Yeah, wisdom is great for high end chars. +10 to random prof.
Never had the guts to test "lucky" though. I suppose it "makes you lucky", not unlike certain skills.
