That's a Town Claim not a PC right? Otherwise you're currently trespassing.

This game cultivates so many emotions

I'm still stuck there, KOed on the ground. My madness level has ratched up to 5 and nothing is happening.

Will my character just rot away like that and permadie? Is there anything I can do?

Prob should not have posted this at all. Pretty sure someone will come kill you, hell if I wasn't caught up with stuff and could spare a murder alt I would do it.

What's the advantage of seeking out and murdering a character like mine?

Should I (or someone else) happen to make the same mistake again, is there something I could have done better? Would it have been possible to tp as soon as I landed because taking a step and creating a scent?

There is no benefit of seeking out and murdering someone, they just like to make your day worse.

The only thing you can do is to keep aware of your surroundings and be careful not to disembark on a claim or town claim. It looks like you have the colors turned on for them so just be watchful. Really, it's a bad idea to be sailing around the ocean off the Providence claim in any case. A lot of much bigger players do that and you can easily get murdered by one of them.
