Skinning question.

Hello there all, I have a small gameplay related question to skinning.

I know that skinning with your bare hands results in a build up of insanity, but do I need to use a butchering knife, or can I get away with using a stone axe?

need a butcher knife or shops Hunting Knife, stone axe wont help butcher.

There's also a third option of a "coyote's knife" that drops off a darkness monster but don't worry about that for now.
