Yes, to a certain point. But a mechanic that only creates a hard time for beginners makes no sense anyways. As said by Coveredwagon already, I think it's useful to add depth to the snow and mountain biome.
The clothes could be made in the tutorial maybe.
There should be more depth to the mechanic as a whole, as well as some much needed fixes:
- the slow effect is incredibly annoying, most of us probably never experienced that first hand, as a few simple cloths are enough already, but the slowing should be less severe, no one likes to be slowed ... well, no one likes to "die" (in a game) either, but actually fighting for your life against some wild animals and then losing and getting KOed is still fun to a certain degree, whereas getting slowed down is just lame
- the thermal value of clothes should be more noticeabled, meaning firstly you should only cool down to a certain point fast and then much, much slower from there on, depending on how your clothing and the current temperature work out, and secondly the effect should be more differentiated, depending on what cloths you actually wear (in which slots) and which are maybe even empty, so if your head is unprotected it would mean more penalty to BB regen and inspi gain, and maybe a slight visual impairment, whereas running around with a naked chest would be more connected to blood, legs to phlegm and stuff
- there would be so many more ways to make this an interesting mechanic... and there should be reason to actually get yourself out into the cold to make use of all that!
Dont get me wrong, it would be good if cold was an actual threat to players, and having warm cloths was important, what is most annoying is the simplicity of how it works, your thermal is high enough so nothing happens, your thermal is one too low for the temperature and you get cold with an instant massive slow, there is no depth in this, and not much to it at all, it is kind of dull where it could actually be something nice.
Also having only ever 2 different temperature "zones" in all the land of Salem (be on snow or not, and a 3rd if you count "indoors") is kind of dull as well.
