Stuck on Abandoned Claim

Earlier today I was out scavenging and walked through what appears to be the remains of an old town. There is a town cornerstone by the river, and when I walked through it the former city name came up. The city itself appears to be mostly empty, and the cornerstone doesn't connect to anything player-made anymore. I don't think the player is even playing any more. As I was walking through my wooden sled got clipped by the jagged river edge, which of course causes my character to stop pulling the sled (which is incredibly frustrating btw). The problem of course is that since it technically is within the range of that cornerstone, I couldn't get the sled back since it is apparently now owned by the abandoned town.
I'm relatively new to Salem, and I had to go through a relatively high amount of time to make my first wooden sled. It took a lot of my available resources, so it's somewhat important for me to have. So, I decided to just invest the time and energy into getting Larceny so I could pick the sled back up on the claim. Yeah, bad idea. I was able to get that done, but now the sled is somehow glitched and it won't let my character approach from the right angle to either Pull or Pick Up the sled. The sled is empty, so it should allow me to put it on my back. Of course, thanks to how Criminality works, every time I tried to pick up my own freaking sled, it drained Black Bile. Now after a few failed attempts my character is unconscious and the criminal timer isn't even moving. Seriously?! I can't even get my own stupid sled back. Is this how the game is supposed to work?

In short, yes
Doing something criminal leaves scents. Theese can be used to track you down and steal stuff from you.
Just make new sled and next time when going to scavage or just look around in some town claim, pick the sled up before you enter.
Also you'll be ko'd on that town claim for quite awhyle

Let this be a valuable lesson that you shouldn't be stealing things, nor walking on claims or land that do not belong to you. You were a criminal, regardless of what you have told yourself to justify it. So you now find yourself playing the price.

Hmm, sounds rough but yes things are working as intended. The timer determines how fast your Crime! debuff wears off, it's not how long you have until you wake up. I'm not sure on how long that takes, somewhere between 8 and 24 hours. It takes a while, but you will respawn back at your base.
You have a couple of options:
1. Get a new sled. Sucks, but it's the safest bet.
2. Glutton up you BB a bunch, I recomend fried oysters, and try to get it again.
3. Ask a friend or hire someone to get the sled back for you.

How long does it take to get 5 branches and 10 woodblocks?

Rif that is the sled that holds two items. He lost the one that holds 4 made of metal and its dear to his heart. I lost a sled when I first started, inside a house in the dark wall of never ending nothingness so I understand.

You can't see me, but I'm rolling my eyes at you and your high horse. For a guy with a lot of posts (and an Admin); your anti-new player attitude does not seem helpful to the community.

And yes, alprice is correct - it's the metal sled with 4 slots and not the 2-slot made from wood blocks. That was my mistake, sorry for not explaining it better. I'm assuming its a combination of glitch (sled stuck in terrain) and being too low in Black Bile that really did me in. It sucks, but I don't think I have a chance at getting that sled back.
For those that were sympathetic and helped by explaining the criminality / KO timer, thanks for the info!

Well, color me embarrassed I guess...

Still, I can understand someone saying that if I were going into an active players camp, and then stealing everything or destroying their hard work. In this case, the town is abandoned and my sled got stuck in the terrain. Yes, look at me and my fiendish evil doing!

No offence, but you learned larceny, turned crimes on, and then carried out said crime without knowing how the system works. An ounce of prevention > a pound of cure. This could have been far worse. If you think loosing your sled sucks, wait till someone finds your KO'd character and kills him. Just be more careful in the future and good luck out there.
