I accidentally fell between the edge of some steep water and a tall cliff. I haven't learned the swimming skill just yet and the place to exit the water is right above the steep water. I have a wooden shovel and rope, however it seems like I am too close to the wall to start digging, and once the character moves a little, it animates as if I am side stepping and cannot move anywhere! Any advice for using this rope?! Is there an administrator who can help or is this a futile case. I know I can fast travel but having a full inventory of plumage is tough to drop. Should I just start a new character?

your character isn't stuck, you just don't want to lose your inventory.

drop it, port, be more careful next time.

I think your situation can be solved by answering to this question: "will it take me more time to obtain the items in my inventory or to level a new character to the state of this one?". I read a piece of advice on the forums, when I started the game, which still seems very good: "your most valuable item is your character".

your character is just a time investment. the most valuable item is your base. with it you can easily make 20 alts on a decent level to be able to loose a few.
keep em all safely offline till you need em to die.

Yes, you are right. But my view differs. I think no base is impossible to break (I am no raider). And as far as I read the threads about the intents of the devs, no base will be indestructible.

I try to make my base as safe as possible, but I take into consideration that one very good raider (or group) may pass by and think I have some valuables hidden inside and break it. Then, all the goods might be gone, even my base might get destroyed (depends on the raider). I think in that case, I can move on with a developed char. This is my opinion, I don't claim to be right, I am still learning. A discussion about this might to good things.

If you got down there you must've been able to climb the cliff both ways. I forgot wether it bugs when trying to climb back up near water, but digging isn't the solution in any case. Equip the rope in whatever hand works and try to climb back up. People are spoiled nowadays :\ The majestic cliffs of Jamestown would've been nice training for situations such as this one.

No. Just drop your inventory and port. It will save you alot of time. Whatever you gathered isn't that much and can always be reforaged.

It depends, a character with 500 T&N is easily worth more than most peoples bases.

true perhaps, but if you keep your base you can make more of those chars more easily then without a base
but ofc value is in the eye of the beerholder
