Why not just give new players enough clothing so they won't face hypothermia? Hypothermia is a cool concept, but it just punishes new players with no experience. You got enough to think about in the beginning already anyways.

Wouldn't that entirely negate the point of it? That is like saying we might as well remove it.

Maybe give the newbs a robe with 50 thermal and make it disappear after 24hs wear?

As it adds nothing to the game, the actual "benefits" are:
- another (probably intended) brain-check for potential new players
- minor source of newbie-tears
- prevents people from running around naked IF the current season is a coldsnap AND they dont use broth
- some rather minor, potential "exploits" of using frozen characters to block others

There may be very well more in the pipe, that the devs have not announced yet and that builds upon temperature mechanics, but if that is not the case, the added benefit is kind of minor, but so is the annoyance it brings, which is kind of nonexistant if you don't feel extremely urged to run around naked ingame all the time.

Throwing a wild guess in here, the whole "cold"-thingy was aimed at making you feel more "fighting for your life" and being "threatened by nature and the wild elements around you", yet it kind of failed at that, except you are a complete newbie and you dont know anything about the game and you are semi-illiterate to the point that you completely miss some good hints in certain ingame popups.

I would dare to say that the newbie-scaring effect, which is the only noticeable effect at all of the whole temperature thing, is kind of more negative, as we would all profit from a little more players.

In the end, I am not terribly concerned about it, but it would definitely be rather beneficial to everyone, maybe just slightly but still, if it were just removed completely.

I wasn't actually saying we should remove it. I was saying that saying "we should give a new players a suit from the get go that combats the effects of it" is pretty much the same thing as saying "we might as well remove it".

Like I said, maybe give them a temporary protection so they can get familiar with the game first(and fall in love with it) and have to worry about clothes a little later when they understood the basic concept.

For an advanced player, getting clothes against the effect means walking up to reeds, collecting a few, get rags and patchwork, get weaving an then make a couple woven reeds to make jute clothes and hay ball shoes and you are good to go.

But for a newb it's an annoying thing that slows them, makes reggen impossible and makes the game really annoying without reason.

There are two points not mentioned on the pro site:
-the snow biome enables a few new things and making a stronger cold effect there creates some extra experience
-there is the freeze mechanic in the form of defense (snow man) that probably no one explored yet.

Yes, to a certain point. But a mechanic that only creates a hard time for beginners makes no sense anyways. As said by Coveredwagon already, I think it's useful to add depth to the snow and mountain biome.

The clothes could be made in the tutorial maybe.
