I'm a new player and I enjoyed reading this little guide. Please keep it up to date if you have more tips like these :)

As a beginner ... Walk. Alot. When you think you have found somewhere to rest your hat, walk more. Scout everywhere. Not only is it for your own benefit to know what's around you, you will likely save yourself time, effort and resources picking up pots, bins, urns, etc from abandoned camps that are likely in your vicinity.

I'll add this. I always tell people that the best way to level up your noob character is to wander around for a week and learn the game before committing to a place.

I see that they very day after I'm banned Claeyt feels it is safe to write a "Guide". The best way to not die in Salem is to find the people in power and then make sure you are on their good side. Don't really need a guide for that 2 step process :).

I have now played a full year without dying once even though the top players have been hunting me for months and months. I have never left a scent except for that time I accidentally hit my fellow bear hunter (You know who you are :D) and in the Arena back when we had those great days of fun and teamwork organized by Binks before the Chief came to Roanoke. I have been fully involved with the politics of the game to some degree. I have owned multiple towns and built everything in the game. I've held 10's of thousands of silver in my pocket and owned stalls. I've brokered 20,000s+ deals in the barrels and just traded 70+ loads of stuff for silver this last week. It's been a fun year.

My only goal now is to help this game grow and to help new players learn the game.

Roanoke almost hit 80 today for the first time in a long, long time and with all the new players I'm going to update this guide of what I've learned over this last year. Help me out by suggesting new topics or edits for my guide on how not to die. Or better yet describe a day or event where you managed to not die.

Thanks Salem. :D

you should put topic 12. to the front as 1., because this is the most important prerequisite for survival. A lot of people do not have the patience to read everything.

Several other points are contradictory (1. vs. 9.), other could be merged (3.+4. , 5.+6.+11.)
In feudalism, it's your count that votes...

Always log off if they get within range of you. Proper rules for meeting people in the woods is to keep your distance and open a chat line so they can hear you're there. If they don't do that then log off or close your client. Don't just run up on someone to make friends. Use natural barriers and walls to separate yourself from them but remember that people can shoot through cliffs and trees.

Hug your wall and you'll end being stomped through it. No one wants to be stomped through his own wall, be ko'd, watch the wall being destroyed and see the death coming.

Too bad. That's also a strong prerequisite for survival.

About the rest, you're splitting hairs Snowpig. Of course some stuff should deserve a little more details but well, it's good as it is now.
Trust your enemies more than your friends. Your enemies will never betray you.

point number three - the polemic under this point is not needed.
point numbers 4 and 5 - can't agree that the character is more important than the base as a generic statement. Especially in a world where alts are common. Point 4 is somewhat contradicted by point 3 in that regard.
The point about braziers talks about defending the base whereas point four says never defend.

I suggest you go through the guide and try to eliminate the inconsistencies or at least clarify some of the above points.
