Lovers of Loftar Part II (The Pregnancy)

Greetings Filthy Squatters of Salem,
I don't think it is any secret that after a few weeks from my first encounter with Loftar I was beginning to show.

After finding out that I am now pregnant Loftar had no choice but to talk with me on IRC. Of course by IRC I mean super secret cell-phones that master-masons may or may not have that only can call other Mason's that Claeyt will most likely ***** over if he finds out. This was the result:
loftar There, up again.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Yay
Chief PeePooKaKa: check this out
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar And no, I saw no such thread.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Let me know what you think
loftar Let's see what wall of text you have concocted. ^^
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: lol yes
Chief PeePooKaKa: I am not as clever with my announcement headlines as the Great Spirit
Chief PeePooKaKa: But it was my attempt at a patch to provide thousands of hours of entertainment for the higher tier characters, revitalized a need and/or desire for hunting at higher tiers, and give you that "oh boy oh boy I might get a XXXX...." Feelings
loftar 'Even now the Tribe is genuinely "excited" to find a Snake Skull' -- Really? I would've assumed you were farming them by the cupboards. ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: We do have more than a cupbaord full
Chief PeePooKaKa: but its still fun
Chief PeePooKaKa: because we actually use them
loftar Cool
Chief PeePooKaKa: Its nice to put snakeskull gear on all the different alts
Chief PeePooKaKa: It is literally the ONLY item we ever get excited about
Chief PeePooKaKa: I feel the rarity level of them is near-perfect
Chief PeePooKaKa: not obscene to go look for them but exciting enough when you find one
loftar Hmmm. I get the point of the thread, at least.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Yes I'm not attached to any one of those items/updates
Chief PeePooKaKa: I was just trying to think of unique and different applications for items that already exist
loftar I don't mind it, for sure. I mean, more stuff is always good.
Chief PeePooKaKa: that, with an altered drop rate, would be fun to find
Chief PeePooKaKa: You could literally just adjust Cricket Violin, Tiny Pocketwatch, Beaver Teeth
Chief PeePooKaKa: and you have (3) items that are rare enough.... Just make them fun to find
loftar Jorb also had some ideas of his own for butchering, and I think the general idea would fit nicely in.
Chief PeePooKaKa: So....
Chief PeePooKaKa: level with me
Chief PeePooKaKa: down and dirty....
Chief PeePooKaKa: Where is Jorb
loftar Haha
loftar I know that he's kinda busy this week, and also that he's going away on a trip next week.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Busy doing what?
loftar His family is holding some kinda gathering this weekend. I haven't inquired further into it.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Gotcha
Chief PeePooKaKa: Well...
loftar And next week he's going away with his girlfriend.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I have waited my entire life for a game like Salem...... And I for the life of me just can never wrap my head around the perceived lack of sense of urgency when it comes to the development time-table.
loftar Hmm. It's probably fair to say that there is some merit to adding these kind of things while working on gluttony. We wanted to add some more fun things last Wednesday but couldn't think of anything not requiring gluttony right then and there.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I feel like Salem is this extremely hot super-model that you have.... And she just walks around naked wanting to be pleasured and have time spent with her... And you and Jorb can't be bothered as you are too busy making paper airplanes
loftar I'll keep this in mind for the next dev-session. I mean, in all likelyhood, we won't do *this*, but it may well provide some ideas for things that could be added in the meantime.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Yes that was the general gist of my conversation with Jorb previous..... Surely Gluttony requires the lion-share of attention and much cannot be done until it is "fixed"
Chief PeePooKaKa: but that does not mean that a small 30 minutes update to an existing item couldn't be made... Especially if that change will cause the player base to "hunt" that item for months to come "buying" you the time you need to fix gluttony
loftar Well, it's not really so much that. As for me, I'm still trying to tie together loose ends, paying back some technical debt and generally try to wrap my head around the state of things, and I think Jorb is in a similar position.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Understood.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I will ask you the same thing I ask Jorb everytime....
Chief PeePooKaKa: Is there anything I can do to help ?
loftar The general problem with the last time before we loosened up with Paradox, in my mind, is that we got too focused on just getting *something* done, which left to little attention to spend on the general picture.
loftar Trying to get that back is really our more important task right now.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Understood
Chief PeePooKaKa: My arguement from a time-management perspective is that if you were to invest (5 hours) a week for example on some small generally meaningless update
Chief PeePooKaKa: Perhaps just ONE item from that list I provided
Chief PeePooKaKa: Then spent the other 20-50+ Hours on the big picture
Chief PeePooKaKa: You would be providing the illusion of progress while still retaining your focus where you desire
loftar Well, that's pretty much what we were doing this whole spring.
loftar The problem is that as long as it feels forced, it drains an unproportional amount of mental energies.
loftar Maintaining those energies is a... strange task that I haven't a really good feel for.
Chief PeePooKaKa:Can you pinpoint what depletes the energies?
Chief PeePooKaKa: Is it a lack of motivation/excitement/passion?
loftar Nah, rather the other way around. A lack of passion is a consequence of the depletion of those energies.
loftar I'd rather say that it is a constant stream of distractions and context-switches that depletes them.
loftar Even if those are just small things.
Chief PeePooKaKa: So how can I help ?
loftar Then again, I for one have worked quite a bit on my things. You'll see that the client has had a rather large stream of large commits lately.
loftar And much has happened behind the scenes as well.
loftar Not that you'd notice much of it.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Perhaps we should leave some woman's undergarments in Jorb's Vehicle, thus, removing his time commitment next week?
Chief PeePooKaKa:Speaking of hte Client
loftar Haha, lol ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: I attempted to use it again.... and it is dangerously close to being the superior client
Chief PeePooKaKa: From what I could tell it is just missing (2) components
Chief PeePooKaKa: #1: Holding shift to quickly identify and display the purity of all items in a container
loftar Hum really? Why? I mean, Ender's client will always have strictly more features, right?
Chief PeePooKaKa: When you have 100+ Cupboards, therefore, 6,400+ items... Hovering over each one is just not possible
loftar I can see that.
Chief PeePooKaKa: #2: The minimap is too small and needs to be re-sizable to at least allow the rendering of neighboring squares
Chief PeePooKaKa: I can honestly say that with those 2 changes Enders would no longer be the "requirement" that it is in the minds of so many people
loftar Yeah, I've kinda wanted to work on the minimap stuff. The main problem is that I don't have a good file caching backend.
Chief PeePooKaKa: hey quick question
Chief PeePooKaKa: Prospecting
Chief PeePooKaKa: How far does it "lock on" to a minehole?
loftar I don't really like Ender's solution of creating a fixed directory, which is why I've been using the JNLP cache instead, but it has turned out that it sucks quite a bit.
Chief PeePooKaKa: It seems logical that it could not sense a mine that is not called into cache as a tile yes?
loftar Right now I'm working on significantly decreasing the client's memory footprint, however.
loftar No, it can do that.
Chief PeePooKaKa: So even if I have not loaded a tile my rods can still locate a mine?
Chief PeePooKaKa: fascinating
loftar Yes
Chief PeePooKaKa: Also on that subject
Chief PeePooKaKa: Two other things that are under the radar
Chief PeePooKaKa: #1: is decay
Chief PeePooKaKa: it seems driven by the path of travel and/or number of times a tile is called
loftar Um, I don't know exactly what you mean by that, but it doesn't sound like anything related to decay that I would recognize.
Chief PeePooKaKa: hmmm
Chief PeePooKaKa: Well
Chief PeePooKaKa: Example
Chief PeePooKaKa: A city on a well-traveled road decays rapidly
Chief PeePooKaKa: in a matter of weeks all structures will be gone
Chief PeePooKaKa: However, cities I have raided on the outskirts where nobody will find them are relatively intact almost 6+ months later
loftar Well, yes, it is true that decay only happens on map parts that are loaded.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I assumed this meant that decay ticks can only occur when a tile loads or deloads..... OR perhaps some random chance while the tile is loaded itself?
loftar That is unfortunate, but I have yet to find a way around it.
loftar No, it happens regularly as long as the map is kept loaded.
Chief PeePooKaKa: So its a random chance wihle the tile is loaded
Chief PeePooKaKa: ok
loftar But, of course, once it is loaded, it is kept loaded for some time, so that's probably the effect you're seeing.
Chief PeePooKaKa:Understood completely
Chief PeePooKaKa: So that being said
Chief PeePooKaKa: What if you did this
Chief PeePooKaKa: Force 1 decay tick when a tile is "unloaded"
Chief PeePooKaKa: in addition to the random decay mechanism
loftar "1 decay tick" would be completely unnoticable, though.
Chief PeePooKaKa: k
Chief PeePooKaKa: a measurable amount of decay then
Chief PeePooKaKa: 10% on a drying rack
Chief PeePooKaKa: 5% on a house
Chief PeePooKaKa: or w/e
Chief PeePooKaKa: And then roll tiles to load even without being called by a client
Chief PeePooKaKa: perhaps for 3 hours a ady
Chief PeePooKaKa: day
loftar Eh, well, humm. Not that that couldn't be some kind of idea, but it would make the decay system more complex in a way that I don't like, because it doesn't fit at all with the current model and thus would require a redundant system.
Chief PeePooKaKa: That way areas that literally NEVER get traveled can obtain some level fo decay
Chief PeePooKaKa: Fair enough
Chief PeePooKaKa: just making suggestions
Chief PeePooKaKa: because it is a bit silly that bases raided in November of last year (in hidden areas) are still almost fully intact
Chief PeePooKaKa: Forces me to manually remove stuff
Chief PeePooKaKa: On that note
Chief PeePooKaKa: What was the reasoning behind Brazier and Wall decay immunity?
loftar Hmmm. An argument could be made, however, towards remaking the decay system a bit with the object system. It still inherits a fair bit of its structure from Haven in a way that may not be entirely necessary.
loftar Hmm? "Wall decay immunity"? What does this mean?
Chief PeePooKaKa: Walls and braziers cannot decay
Chief PeePooKaKa: on or off claim
loftar Waaat?
Chief PeePooKaKa: it is quite annoying to have to hit the same bases over and over because the walls never decay and new players inherit the
Chief PeePooKaKa: them*
loftar That.... was not at all intentional. ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: Ah
Chief PeePooKaKa: Well....
loftar Thanks for pointing it out. ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: Glad we had this talk then
loftar lol
Chief PeePooKaKa: Braziers remain at full strength forever
Chief PeePooKaKa: and thus, I have to kill every one I find... or some nublet will put a new claim over it
Chief PeePooKaKa: and I will have a probelm in the future
Chief PeePooKaKa: If you port around the map
Chief PeePooKaKa: the reason you see entire "Shells" of bases is not because I scraped everything inside
Chief PeePooKaKa: it is because everything inside decay'd...and the walls/braziers don't
loftar Yes, I completely understand.
loftar Will fix.
Chief PeePooKaKa: On the subject of walls perpetuating
Chief PeePooKaKa: I had a fun solution for tree walls
Chief PeePooKaKa: One I think you and JOrb will like :0
Chief PeePooKaKa: *A lit Torch can be right clicked on a tree
Chief PeePooKaKa: *Tree will become a smoldering Tree for 1 hour with a random chance to "spread" the fire 1 adjacent tile every 5 minutes
Chief PeePooKaKa: *Smoldering Tree can be extinguished by righ clicking a bucket of water on it
Chief PeePooKaKa: *After 1 hour the Smoldering Tree becomes "Destroyable" instead of only "chop"
loftar Well, yes, we have considered such things.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Forest Fires!!!!!
Chief PeePooKaKa: Let me burn down these man made forests
loftar It has just seemed a bit overly dangerous, but it's still on the table.
Chief PeePooKaKa: ok
Chief PeePooKaKa: Just thought it would be funny
Chief PeePooKaKa: Hey do you want to see one of my wonders of the world
loftar Yes ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: It has not bee released to the public yet
Chief PeePooKaKa: but it is most impressive
loftar Not just now; I'm trying to code a bit.
Chief PeePooKaKa: bah
loftar Sorry
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: fine
Chief PeePooKaKa: lazy
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar Haha ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar That certainly looks quite nice.
loftar It might look even better with some fog.
Chief PeePooKaKa: you have got to see it some day
Chief PeePooKaKa: Its so ridiculous
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: yes
loftar Why?
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: yes
loftar lol
Chief PeePooKaKa: See why I need rare items
Chief PeePooKaKa: Look at the **** you have me doing
Chief PeePooKaKa: to amuse myself
Chief PeePooKaKa: lol
loftar ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: One last question
Chief PeePooKaKa: And then I will leave you alone
Chief PeePooKaKa: and greatly appreciate your time
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: We have found water @ approx 48+ Alchemical purity on every server of every element....
Chief PeePooKaKa: EXCEPT
Chief PeePooKaKa: Mercury
Chief PeePooKaKa: Mercury has not gone above 43.00 Alchemical on any server
Chief PeePooKaKa: We have had (4) potential braves quit the game now... because we told them if they did not find 45+ we would kill them
loftar Say what you will, but I'm fairly sure that's coincidental.
Chief PeePooKaKa: But we are beginning to think that 45+ may not exist? Seems like too much of a coincidence
loftar Some coincidence, I agree, but it's not more than 1 in 16, still.
Chief PeePooKaKa: ok
Chief PeePooKaKa: I will continue to make applicants hunt Merc water then
loftar Haha, do so.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Just didn't want to kill more people if it was an impossible task
loftar I see no intrinsic reason why that would be true, at least.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Fair enough
loftar If anything, I'm surprised you have found such consistent max levels of the other elements.
Chief PeePooKaKa: It has taken hundreds of man hours I assure you
Chief PeePooKaKa: but yes... 48+ of everything else
loftar There should have been a larger chance of them being more distributed in my intuitive conception.
Chief PeePooKaKa: This is a fun thread I made
Chief PeePooKaKa: with the intention of being fixes that would hopefully take 5 minutes
Chief PeePooKaKa: like the walls/brazier not decaying etc.
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: If your ever bored.. .check it out
Chief PeePooKaKa: Should I post some of this conversation in Lovers of Loftar?
Chief PeePooKaKa: It was mixed reaction last time.... I'm not the most favorable to relay information
Chief PeePooKaKa: but some information is better than no information I suppose...... Your call...
loftar "Wilderness Guide face Texture doesn't show." <-- This is intentional, you know.
loftar NPCs don't have human faces.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Gotcha
Chief PeePooKaKa: nice to know
loftar I don't mind if you share any of this. I'll leave you to be the judge if it's a good idea.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I will share parts then. playerbase is pretty starved for attention from our Great&Greater Spirits
Chief PeePooKaKa: Here is a screenshot of your Salem Playerbase
Chief PeePooKaKa: *Screenshot of Birds wanting to be fed*
loftar Sigh; I'm painfully well aware.
loftar I'm just having a bit too much fun right now rewriting things you'll never notice, though.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Gotcha
Chief PeePooKaKa: Well thanks again
Chief PeePooKaKa: don't want to steal anymore of your time
loftar I'll continue on my adventures in the code mines, then.

Chief PeePooKaKa: Hey do you want to see one of my wonders of the world
loftar Yes ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: It has not bee released to the public yet
Chief PeePooKaKa: but it is most impressive
loftar Not just now; I'm trying to code a bit.
Chief PeePooKaKa: bah
loftar Sorry
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: fine
Chief PeePooKaKa: lazy
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar Haha ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar That certainly looks quite nice.
loftar It might look even better with some fog.
Chief PeePooKaKa: you have got to see it some day
Chief PeePooKaKa: Its so ridiculous
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: yes
loftar Why?
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: yes
loftar lol
Chief PeePooKaKa: See why I need rare items
Chief PeePooKaKa: Look at the **** you have me doing
Chief PeePooKaKa: to amuse myself
Chief PeePooKaKa: lol
loftar ^^
Chief PeePooKaKa: One last question
Chief PeePooKaKa: And then I will leave you alone
Chief PeePooKaKa: and greatly appreciate your time
loftar ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: We have found water @ approx 48+ Alchemical purity on every server of every element....
Chief PeePooKaKa: EXCEPT
Chief PeePooKaKa: Mercury
Chief PeePooKaKa: Mercury has not gone above 43.00 Alchemical on any server
Chief PeePooKaKa: We have had (4) potential braves quit the game now... because we told them if they did not find 45+ we would kill them
loftar Say what you will, but I'm fairly sure that's coincidental.
Chief PeePooKaKa: But we are beginning to think that 45+ may not exist? Seems like too much of a coincidence
loftar Some coincidence, I agree, but it's not more than 1 in 16, still.
Chief PeePooKaKa: ok
Chief PeePooKaKa: I will continue to make applicants hunt Merc water then
loftar Haha, do so.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Just didn't want to kill more people if it was an impossible task
loftar I see no intrinsic reason why that would be true, at least.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Fair enough
loftar If anything, I'm surprised you have found such consistent max levels of the other elements.
Chief PeePooKaKa: It has taken hundreds of man hours I assure you
Chief PeePooKaKa: but yes... 48+ of everything else
loftar There should have been a larger chance of them being more distributed in my intuitive conception.
Chief PeePooKaKa: This is a fun thread I made
Chief PeePooKaKa: with the intention of being fixes that would hopefully take 5 minutes
Chief PeePooKaKa: like the walls/brazier not decaying etc.
Chief PeePooKaKa: ***REDACTED***
Chief PeePooKaKa: If your ever bored.. .check it out
Chief PeePooKaKa: Should I post some of this conversation in Lovers of Loftar?
Chief PeePooKaKa: It was mixed reaction last time.... I'm not the most favorable to relay information
Chief PeePooKaKa: but some information is better than no information I suppose...... Your call...
loftar "Wilderness Guide face Texture doesn't show." <-- This is intentional, you know.
loftar NPCs don't have human faces.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Gotcha
Chief PeePooKaKa: nice to know
loftar I don't mind if you share any of this. I'll leave you to be the judge if it's a good idea.
Chief PeePooKaKa: I will share parts then. playerbase is pretty starved for attention from our Great&Greater Spirits
Chief PeePooKaKa: Here is a screenshot of your Salem Playerbase
Chief PeePooKaKa: *Screenshot of Birds wanting to be fed*
loftar Sigh; I'm painfully well aware.
loftar I'm just having a bit too much fun right now rewriting things you'll never notice, though.
Chief PeePooKaKa: Gotcha
Chief PeePooKaKa: Well thanks again
Chief PeePooKaKa: don't want to steal anymore of your time
loftar I'll continue on my adventures in the code mines, then.
