5.1 surround sound or better - if the game supports this (and a surprising amount of games DON"T!) get it, will double your in gaming buzz. Some have said surround sound headphones work, but I go with traditional speaker set up.
Dual Screens - I know most games don't support this, but having a browser open - even if the second screen is a tiny cheap one, is amazingly convenient.

Some say these make a difference but I haven't tried:
Razer Nostromo
Cyborg M.M.O.7
Cyborg amBX
Logitech G9X Programmable Gaming Mouse - add or remove weights to your preference
Here is where you can see some photo's

I'm not too fussed by mice really, a mouse is a mouse as far as I'm concerned.
One thing I would love to try is a projector - but I'm being a good saver atm :]

I'm not promoting that link, or any particular brand.
Just sharing my opinion, doesn't look like anyone uses anything other than generic laptops with direction pads around these parts :/

I've been looking (drooling) over some of those peripherals for years. Need a new computer before I start spending money on toys, though.

You can get a cheap 5.1 sound system for $US100 which isn't too bad, and even a small (15inch) lcd is fine for a browser window.

Aye. I've seen a few decent 5.1 systems for under $100, and less if you don't mind used. I could probably cobble one together myself, but I know I couldn't do it cheaper (or better quality) than that, though.

What I'm after is one of the flight systems. After Microsoft quit supporting their PC controllers with XP, I haven't been able to afford a replacement force feedback joystick/controller. I'd also like to get one of the gamepads. I used one of those one time for an RTS, and I'm sold on them. This computer is literally on its last leg, though. If I don't get it replaced, all the peripherals in the world, and games to play with them, will be pointless.

Yes forcefeedback (console controllers) would be a very cool feature  imagine your keyboard and mouse moving around the place in response to ingame explosions/collisions with your character etc
