The 'hard' cap on how much clay you can get out is based on the proximity of rivers and so on, i.e. based on the maximum height difference per tile and the shortest distance to tiles that cannot be lowered.
Why is anyone even bothered about this. Just use dedicated clay alts which are more efficient, easier on the eye without the pits around your base, and a ton safer.
