Classic!

This is another related video with icy conditions. Do you still use summer tires (not studded tires) during winter season in US?

You can get "All Season" tires here, that are supposed to work regardless of season (except extreme weather, of course).

You would need spiked tyres or chains to get a chance on "black ice" and I would not bet if that would help in that particular case.
The road should have been sprayed with salt or brine to get rid of ice.

Ba Humbug~

Not a true Christian- I prefer to celebrate New Years

My folks gave up Church when I did- pretty obvious they weren't into it to start...just for my benefit and when I said no way... they agreed! (And the cash stopped flowing to the Church!)

Sucks to be the Church...

We have various snow tires, but good luck finding anyone intelligent enough to drive in the snow without ***** themselves or losing control of their vehicle, winter weather tires or no. I swear, every year if it snows even a tiny bit, everyone loses their damn minds and the cars pile up all over the place. This is western Washington of course, eastern Washington can drive in the snow. Regardless of the weather, school/work does not shut down. Western sees less than an inch of snow in their driveway and they call in to work to say they can't make it while their kids are screaming with joy because the buses aren't running. Here's what it turns into in seattle.

I find it hillarious how people lose their mind and instantly transform into snails when they see a single snowflake or raindrop on the highway. -.-

Reminds me of one of the cars I had, good winter tires and 4wd, and the left lane (uncleared, 5-10 cm of snow on it) of that 3-lane highway was all mine as I passed by all the snails that were driving (rather crawing) on the cleared snow free middle and right lanes, at not even half the speed I was going on my personal snowy lane.

Just remember, winter tires and 4wd give great control and acceleration, but a 4wd won't make you break faster, so drive with appropriate anticipation.
