Well, in the automobile world, it often does, but we're not talking about a specialty car. There are those out there that really want this to be a thing. I can't see how it won't become at least a destination activity in cities like Paris, Tokyo, LA, etc similar to the way people travel to go snow skiing and boarding. Hell, people will drop $100 at the Long Beach pier for a single bungie jump over the ocean, and that was the last time I was there in the late 90s.

Have you seen what buying a Honda funds? Buying an overpriced toy funds more overpriced toys. Buying a practical car funds "practical" research like robotics and fancy Segways. (Don't forget Lexus is owned by the Toyota group, so could say that buying any Toyota is the same thing.)
