In honor of the original movie now being rebooted or whatever, let all of us oldfarts be nostalgic and the youngfarts see what they missed by being late to the party!

Who's gonna watch the new one and how likely do you think it is you'll facepalm hard at a classic being remade with new techniques for achieving scares?

I'm fairly excited. Huge fan of horror films. Alot of the remakes are not THAT bad. A big reason why we like the old stuff is more of a nostalgic reason. I will however still be a crotchety old man during the movie.

I went to the cinema and watched it in 3D, I remember the original terrifying my mother until this very day, but I must say, I was pretty disappointed. Usually horror movies leave me sleepless for a while, but after watching Poltergeist I felt just fine. :?

Classics are Classic for a reason, they should never be brought back, just look at how horrible the latest star trek movies are....

They actually aren't bad at all. With the exception of DS9 all the other startreks are just incredibly boring. I enjoyed the hell out of them especially the 1st time around but I tried to rewatch and fell asleep every episode.

There are quite a few remakes that aren't bad or better than the original.

I like the classics and loved to watch them when I was young, however, looking back at some good old scary movies, (IT by stephen king for example) they are not good enough anymore. The special effects are really crap, dialogs very cheesy & quality very low, which makes them more like comedies than the very creepy horror movie when you watched it 20 years ago. Hence I love remakes (ofcourse not all of them)

I've always been thinking the book is much scarier than the movie, but then again I think book>movie 90% of the time.

Remakes should be done for cineastic reasons only and never for profit imo, sadly it rarely seems to be the case.

Everything Hollywood does (and by extension, every other entertainment product) is for profit. Whether the producers and financiers see an actual profit is up to the whims of the public and the ability of the production crew(s) to turn what may be bad or mediocre into something fun or squeeze value out of the money they are allotted.
