Histroyshrimp Detective Agency

In keeping with my goal of only making really boring posts I give you:

Case Number 1: When is Salem?

Presuming this means Charles the First is the current King of England during Salem that would put Salem anywhere between 27 March 1625 and King Charles I's execution in 1649.

There are lots of King Louises (Loui?) but only two overlapping with King Charles I. Either:

Louis XIII, who was King of France from 1610 to 1643.
or
Louis XIV, who ruled as King of France from 1643 until his death in September 1715.

Between those two dates we get:
Charles I + Louis XIII = March 1625 - May 1643
or
Charles I + Louis XIV = May 1643 - Jan 1649

Then when you factor that Providence wasn't founded until June 1636 it narrows the dates to:
Charles I + Louis XIII + Providence = June 1636 - May 1643
or
Charles I + Louis XIV + Providence = 1643 - Jan 1649 (no change)

Lastly if we assume Salem takes place in autumn then:
Charles I + Louis XIII + Providence - Autumn = autumn 1636 - autumn 1642
or
Charles I + Louis XIV + Providence - Autumn = autumn 1643 - autumn 1648

Coins
Sommer's Island: 1616
St. Patrick: The small issue coin was first minted 1646.
Lord Baltimore Coin: First minting 1658
American Plantations: First minting August of 1688
New Yorke: Made sometime between 1668 and 1673.
Elephant Token: 1694
Hibernia Coppers: First indenture June 16, 1722.
Rosa Americana: First minting 1722

The only dates that overlap with the first set of dates are Sommer's Island Coins and St. Patrick Coppers. Theoretically any of the earlier coins could be kicking around at a later date so the coins give the earliest date for Salem as autumn 1722.

Token Kings:
Charles Albert - 24 January 1742 – 20 January 1745
Christian IV - April 1588 – 28 February 1648
Elizabeth I - 17 November 1558 – 24 March 1603
Henry IV - August 1589 – 14 May 1610
Henry VIII - 21 April 1509 – 28 January 1547
Louis V - 2 March 986 – 21 May 987
James VI - 24 July 1567 – 1603
Maximilian I - 16 February 1486 – 12 January 1519
Phillip III - 13 September 1598 – 31 March 1621
Rudolf II - 27 October 1575–1612

Assuming the same logic as the coins that would put Salem at the earliest autumn 1742.

Conclusion: While the coins are interesting and I can tell a lot of work went into them I'm prone to regard them as meaningless when it comes to the time frame of Salem because of the very late date and the impossibility of some coins, IE a Charles Albert Sommer's Island Coin for instance. Like the Jalapenos and Peyote Cactus, they are a fun addition to the game, but shouldn't be taken too seriously. So I suspect the date of Salem lies somewhere between autumn 1636 and autumn 1648, and given the establishment of Providence I would suspect more towards 1648 than 1636.

Looks like he might use that weak wrist to draw the sword it's laying on and behead a fool.

Great read. Keep up the good work!

Is it 1643 or did the new server start back at 1640 or maybe farther back Prov was founded in 1636.
