Log-in Screen Lovecraftian creature

Postby anox » Sun Sep 23, 2012 1:46 pm

Hello,

I'm a follower of Great Cthulhu and his spawns. Yes.
So color me ecstatically surprised when I first saw His Magnificence portrayed on Salem's log-in screen.

The question is "why?"
The Devs did mention Lovecraft on a few occasions, but are there any obviously Lovecraftian touches in the game?

I think it's more the lore of how things are being designed. It hasn't been truly implemented yet.

But I kinda hate that Cthulu. I believe the point is to remind people that this game is sinister despite the cutesy graphics. But it's *really* out of theme for the game. There are plenty of nasty looking monsters they could have put there instead.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

No it isn't? Jorb has clearly stated that one of the influences is going to be Lovecraft....

Theme with regards to the setting of Salem. Cthulu just doesn't jive with Pilgrims in my mind. Lovecraft also wrote horror science fiction, but that doesn't mean we're getting laser pistols.

But that's just my view of Cthulu personally.

*sighs* No, I've had no word from the devs that we're not getting laser pistols.

Edit: AHA! We've been told we're not getting plastic. So there won't be any *plastic* laser pistols.
