I believe the quote meant that it informed the OP that they were going to be ganked by the chief, but saying that it alters the landscape would mean that a 30 minute new character being killed matters.

I most certainly could not. Gosh, if I could have my way, I'd want Sabinati back on the mod team too. It's just not realistically possible for a couple of mods to police the forum 24/7, even if the current community is small. It's tough keeping up to date on every little detail and being around for when trouble is brewing. I've had my disagreements with Stax in the past but heck if I don't have a great deal of respect for him and Potjeh. Having a good amount of bite and being willing to stand up to users can be an admirable trait. I'm honestly way too nice and often too lenient. =)

Even with the low player base that we have now, I don't think you understand how much moderation goes on around here. Most moderator actions go unseen, and can only be viewed via the moderator logs. Even just one forum goer like yourself causes an assload of work for the moderators.

I basically had to quit posting, to appease my fellow moderators, but mostly to stop the constant ***** from you and all of your little cronies, along with the rest of Salem's criminal community that can't handle getting their asses handed to them in the forums or in the game.

In our Native American culture we have great respect for the mighty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dung_beetle as well. We admire the work they do and respect that without them the balance of mother Nature could be completely shifted! Each of the Great Spirits creatures has a purpose and a place. Without this noble beetle we would be up to our ears in excrement and for that we thank the beetle each morning and each night for its labor. As such I can sympathize with this respect you speak of but I urge you to remember that at the end of the day it is still a dung beetle.

That being said I find it very interesting that Travian (an example used frequently on this forum) has ONE moderator per every 22,000 users. By the END of a server they have 1 moderator per the 1,500-2,500 users that are left. I have rarely seen multiple moderators assigned to an entire server which frankly has about 50X the posting volume that I see on our Salem forums.

This begs the question. If a German company has found a way to successfully (I define success here as I see infinitely less complaints about moderation on a Travian forum as I do here) moderate with a 5,000 Users to 1 Moderator ratio. Just how are we having difficulties with a ratio almost 10X better? Perhaps the emphasis and/or duties on the mod team are being overtaxed? No need to reinvent the wheel here but possibly just look outside the box and ask the hard questions on what other communities are doing that allow them to moderate 10 times the volume with less mods than we have here. I know I for one can read every single forum post on these forums in less than one solid hour a day so what exactly is soaking the rest of the mods time in their duties?
