Well the environment your child grows up in is entirely up to you, your child wont care much for politics for a good while..

As long as you teach your child to be who they want to be, and to have their own opinion.

I would also say to teach them to be realistic. Realism is something that is severely lacking in the current generation. Not the bit where you can have dreams and follow them and all that jazz, but about life in general. What I mean is, no one these days seems to realize that you can't always have things your way. The world just doesn't work like that, and while I'm sure they would like to think that the world MUST be a happy fun place where everyone gets along as long as they all agree or can be forced to agree, but it just isn't. There will always be a disparity somewhere, there will always be someone hating someone for some reason. The world can be a great place, but it can also be an overwhelmingly abysmal place. To understand this, accept it, and learn to take the things life hurls at you on the chin instead of rioting or crying about it is a lesson that this and the last generation are in desperate need of.

Shrapnel wrote:Trump won, lets see how long it takes for him to follow through with some of the wild **** he promised..

A lot of that stuff is gonna require legislation and as long as he can get it through congress (to approve it), the supreme court (to make sure it's constitutional), and a vote of the people (so people can decide if they actually want it to happen), then sure. I'm certain he will try to follow through with his promises. Don't want another president abusing executive order to crowbar legislation through again. I will be happy when he overturns all of that **** Obama rammed into law. Regardless of intent and even if I liked any of it, which I don't, you gotta go through the right channels to get garbage like that set in place. He is being pretty gracious about his victory, which I can admire.

It shouldn't matter who you voted for and you definitively shouldn't personally attack someone for it- Be a decent human being and give the future president a chance before you riot.

ah good for you komrade! you are starting to realize the true nature of the left.

this is how it has always been for a very very long time, you first need to understand a few basic things.

1> across the world "the left" is nothing but the same old communist party/ideal from over a century ago, they have rebranded themselves under many titles across many countries around the world with slight variations in their agenda. however the literature, belief system, structure and fallout through history is the exact same.

2> throughout history around the globe the communist party has sought to stifle any individualism and impose their collectivist ideal onto others through force, exactly like the "liberals" in america because as mentioned american "liberals" are nothing but the rebranded modern incarnation of communists in this country, the moderate outliers caught up in their ranks are simply clueless young people who had the misfortune of spending their formative years in a region saturated in these people and as such after many years are prone to reactionary thought based off of emotional stimuli instead of logic or facts (aka brainwashing) but make no mistake the core of their movement is tyrannical and suppressive.

they seek to tell you what you can believe and what you can say, how much of your money they will allow you to keep, that your property is not actually yours but "everyones", that you did not create your own success in business but that "the community" did by using your product, what you "need" to be "allowed" to have or not be it a big house, income level, nice car, firearm, certain breed of dog etc, to undermine and replace your religion (or lack thereof) with an absolute belief in the state, the increase of centralized power and removal of freedom of thought.

lets use two examples of the end of the spectrum for both the right and the left.

an ******* on the right might have a gay neighbor and say "hey, go to hell ***" then go back inside and drink beer on his couch while said **** he had addressed minds his own business and engages in butt sex across the street at his house.

an ******* on the left however wants the guy in the above example to be charged with "hate speech" and thrown in jail, to have his employer fire him, to have his family harassed and will stage a protest in front of his house for a week, all because he dared to say something the leftist did not like.

one of these examples is impolite, the other is oppressive.

this is how it has ALWAYS been among the leftists and ALWAYS will be as this is their core, they seek to impose THEIR mandate in every country and corner of the world calling it "progress", "social justice", "social reform" and so on, when their unpopular ideas are rejected the next step is ALWAYS violence and chaos. the majority of the wars in the last century and hundreds of millions dead in purges around the globe were started by the communists seeking to overthrow the systems of the incumbent population and replace them through force with those of their own.

lets not forget a scant few of many thousands of quotes from communist icons:

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" - karl marx

"Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun" - mao zedong

"The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end.” - leon trotsky

"Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas." - joseph stalin

the communist continuously projects himself onto the opposition, how many times have we heard this election how trump supporters are all rotten racists? yet these same people have been heavily and openly advocating and increasingly so for several years the total subjugation of white men and for the past year at any number of these "peaceful protests" they attack white males minding their own business. to these same people openly conservative minorities are also not allowed to form a view that dissents from their own so they are "uncle toms" and "traitors" that must be destroyed alongside the evil white males.

either way it is not illegal or immoral to form your own thoughts and if that means someone decides to be racist that is 100% at their prerogative to do exactly that, the left wants to stigmatize freedom of thought and they always begin by sowing racial divide and outlawing "racism" because when we follow the rabbit hole in the opposite direction more and more things become "racist" such as wanting the people voting in the election for president to actually be an american citizen, or not wanting an increase in taxes for xyz social program, or wanting to maintain high standards in business and academics. they simultaneously do this with a few other themes as well, until eventually any and everything that remotely disagrees with their viewpoint is "selfish" "racist" "privileged" "some kind of phobic and so on.

how many times for the last six months have we been told by the left that trump was going to lose and when he did it would be trump supporters out causing chaos in the streets? funny, i do not remember any riots when obama got elected in 2008 and 2012, or when bill clinton was elected either but here we are with a trump victory and immediately all across the country where the bulk of these scum reside they are doing exactly what they accused us of.

since the end of the civil war there have been secessionist movements in the southern states wanting to vote themselves out of the union as with brexit, there are also some in states like maine. the left has decried these people as "dangerous right wing extremists" for decades, yet now the left in california, oregon and washington are screaming to secede all because trump got elected, total hypocrisy as always

how many times have we been fed the lie about trump/the right are the violent sociopaths full of intolerance for an opposing view? yet we see that all of the trouble at the trump rallies was instigated by them, we see hundreds of clips on youtube of crowds of these people surrounding a lone individual and attacking them because they have a trump sign/hat, we see reports of republican campaign offices being firebombed, we see hundreds of clips of the left stealing trump signs and vandalizing that individuals property, we see them openly advocating murder all across social media.

this is how it has always been among the communists, and this is why earlier in this thread i pointed out that no matter who won the country was on track to a massive upheaval or "civil war" in its future as the divisions run to deep to fix and tensions will continue to rise until it eventually boils over like it always does, the right will not give up basic liberty and freedom to live as they choose and the left will never stop trying to impose themselves on others, in addition the other side does not abide by the same rule of law that we do which is why you see the democrats rampantly cheating every election, you see them setting up sanctuary cities and bringing in millions of illegal votes, you see them telling outright lies against the opposition in the media and so on.

the war between liberty and communism never ended as when the armed conflicts subside in one region or another it is a constant war of ideas that has been going on across the globe for over a hundred years. unfortunately most of you in europe are currently losing but it will not always be that way so long as you do not allow yourselves to be "reeducated", thankfully those of us in the states just had a major victory not just with the election of president trump but also by sweeping congress and the senate and soon tipping the balance of the supreme court back in our direction as well. as such the communists are going to do what they always do create violence and oppression while calling everyone else violent and oppressive.

+1

I find this behavior especially grating because they're not even advocating anything. They're not protesting in favor or against any particular thing, there's no message they're trying to convey about some future policy they want to see happen or not happen. They're just having a big fat temper tantrum because Trump got elected and they disagree. Well, it's over, it happened, deal with it now by making your opinions on future laws and policies known, not by staging 'cry-ins'.

There's a post in my facebook newsfeed today about how voters from 18 to 24 voted overwhelmingly in favor of Hillary. To me, this just demonstrates how the democratic party is all about making the government into everyone's mommy and daddy. The government will take care of you and tell you what to do, just trust them, do your chores, get an allowance, don't worry about making your own choices. I'll even admit I felt much the same way when I was that age, that social programs offered some feeling of security in a world I wasn't quite prepared to be independent in, but it's mostly an illusion of security. I've ultimately had a poorer quality of life than I would have had if I had been able to keep all the money I made when I was working and manage it myself for myself for the times I was unemployed.

I honestly think our country would benefit immensely by high school and maybe even some community college programs focused on preparing children to be adults. Home economics class was a joke when I took it not because it wasn't teaching good things, but because they didn't have TIME to teach ENOUGH. English classes, history classes, and much of science curriculum, on the other hand, was just rehashing of things students had already been taught and if they didn't know them by now, they weren't going to learn. So, I feel like there's room for change here without overburdening kids with too much to learn. I think that in the increasing absence of parents teaching their children how to actually survive in the real world, we need expanded home economics classes that teach kids how to cook, sew a hem, clean a bathroom/kitchen, understand how germs and sickness and basic medicine work (yes, a lot of people really don't understand these things, which is why you get doctors prescribing useless antibiotics to terrified parents who's children have influenza, and parents making the truly insane decision not to vaccinate their kids), understand and manage their credit, make and keep a budget, balance a checkbook, plan for future expenses, choose how to invest what money they do have, understand loans, fill out their tax forms properly, and other basic life skills. When I went to college, I knew about half the things on that list and it caused me problems I shouldn't have had, and cost me late fees I could have spent on food, because my parents never actually took the time, for example, to explain how my car registration and personal property tax worked. This lack, I think, causes the sort of confusion and bewilderment that leads to people turning to the government to take over their lives and some of them just never quite grow out of it.

Another thing that's getting to me on this is the sheer level of not understanding how the system works, and it's not like this stuff is difficult to learn. They can't say they weren't taught either, at least not in my state. In highschool, I and everyone else, was required to take "government and *insert government related thing here*" classes before we would be eligible to graduate. You had to take two different ones. I took "Gov and the economy" which was a waste of time because the teacher had no idea about anything to do with government or the economy, and "Gov and current events." That second class was taught by a teacher who really knew what he was doing and how to go about it. He managed to cram every bit of information about the various government processes that we would need to understand into our heads while also making sure the class was a great time. All of the **** they are complaining about without understanding, like how a candidate can get less popular votes and still win*, was taught in school.

*America is a republic, the popular vote means next to nothing in a republic. Clinton won states with a high population density, but had less representatives. Trump got most of the states with lots of representatives but less people.

OMG, I've just been ruthlessly censored. :/

So, in the aforementioned post on my facebook, I commented, not at all rudely, that "I'm not surprised college age voters went Democrat, as they often do, because they're young and used to being dependent on their parents, and so they like the idea of the government taking care of them. But most of them grow out of it. :D" Just a few minutes ago, I got a frantic phone call from my mother, who was literally in tears that I had said something so 'horrible', and that I must immediately delete said post before her cousin saw it or it would ruin family relations forever, and this cousin I'm not sure I've even ever met would hate me eternally with the fire of a thousand suns. Then I got a spiel about being a sore winner and when I mentioned the 'sore loser' behavior of the Democrats I was informed that protests are always violent and what they're doing is perfectly normal (for my sanity, I have to assume she's watching her favorite rose-colored liberal media outlet and hasn't seen how bad some of it is). Of course, I caved and deleted the comment, mom tears being a practically irresistible force. :/ I'm so ashamed for the liberal members of my family now.  And I'm completely depressed, because I knew my mom was watching Rachel Maddow, but I didn't know it was this bad. I feel like a parent who knew their kid wasn't doing all their homework and just found out they're flunking out of high school. Like I dropped the ball somewhere. Is Liberals Anonymous a thing?

Heard about this from a coworker and I've been looking for the tweet to quote...

Trump said, "My supporters won't Riot. They have jobs, go to work!"

Something along those lines.

Liberals without work because you had a Liberal President.

And as for the West Coast succession- I'd say let them go- after they replay all the Billions they owe the US population for keeping them afloat. Ordinary citizens who give up their passport still have a hefty fine, etc for the privilege of leaving. Let every person, citizen or not on the West Coast pay that penalty...and you can all go!

Pay up, balance your books...and goodbye!

(Never happen)

Wait. Wait, wait, hold on a goddamn minute. Is this really what people think protests are now? If this is the case, then there is something seriously wrong going on. Is this really what it's come to? Have we really gotten to a point where people think rioting is a perfectly reasonable response to not getting your way?

My stepsister keeps posting **** about the "Cascadia initiative" or something like that. Basically an old plan for Washington and Oregon to split off from the US along with an equal sized chunk of Canada. It will never happen of course but it doesn't stop her from being a whiny tit about the whole thing.

I would love to see cali break off from the US. They are in such insane debt. Anyone who thinks that their state could successfully break from the US after this election is a traitorous commie idiot.
