I have no problem with mods banning/enforcing things they feel unfit so long as a clear rule is set about it, or at least if they're able to tie it into one of the current rules decently so that it fits with the ban.

A: This forum has a rough attitude towards new players and their ideas, yes. Why? Because we have seen them posted countless times. This game has been in development for a long time and SeaTribe have a very set idea on what they want it to be -- end product wise. The simple truth is that suggestions regarding drastic changes in core gameplay will most likely be overlooked by Jorbtar. We can't have too many chefs in this soup, give it time to evolve into what Jorbtar has envisioned and if you still feel the same once the product is launched, then go ahead and suggest changes.
Also, for content ideas: please check if it has been posted before.

I was thinking. That to solve this problem one of the mods makes a sticky topic listing all the current suggestions? I mean it would require a little bit of time but if one wanted to do this. (perhaps even having a user do it then after approval sticky that one.)

Go for it. If it's a well designed and informative post it may even get that sticky. =)

I personally don't think this is a HUGE problem. Its not always what mods DO its what they DO NOT do. I have never seen Stax ban anybody affiliated with his crew. Or mod ban anybody they converse with. Now maybe they didn't deserve it. But in the case of Dallane Trolling or Mishibag Sockpuppeting Roaul the problem here is that certain members commit the same crimes with immunity.

I can't speak for the other mods here, but if I'm doing this, please point it out to me. I can't always be objective about myself. I try to be, but I know I fail miserably at it.

As far as certain players receiving warnings/bans and others not getting the same treatment, I know I try to review their history of warnings and bans before handing anything out. I have issued warnings to several people I find interesting because they have violated the rules. I also have not documented these very well as I have been of the opinion that specific actions should be kept private unless the other person wants to discuss it publicly. I'm always more than willing to discuss my reasoning with anyone regarding a decision. Some of these players that have been mentioned have received several warnings and even a ban for day or two in some cases.

If the US said that all those protesters must write their congressman and protest in one tiny roped off area you would have seen riots. Sometimes the best place to showcase an injustice is the place in which it happened. Thats all we see here on the forums... nothing more... nothing less. I think trying to "herd" those who point out the inadequacies of the system into one thread is a mistake but thats just me.

We aren't asking you to go to Paradox Plaza to file complaints on moderation decisions, though that is an option if you think that it's not being handled properly. Just like TotalyMoo is our "boss" here, he has a boss there. We're just asking you to post in the appropriate thread here. Make a link back to the original thread/posts if you feel like it. Anything to help make your case is a good thing!

Actually, that would be because he has proven to be a member of excellent standing that the devs listen to from HnH. (Hope I'm not revealing anything that shouldn't be here.) Several people playing Salem have this "favored" position. They are great testers, great thinkers, or just good support. If the in-game landscape has changed at his or any of these super-user's "say so", it's because he (or they) made a reasoned argument that devs completely agreed with, not because he has any special powers over the game world.

Teck ninja'd me!! I feel the same. Many others have stepped up to support the community that aren't mods. Just remember that someone needs to maintain it to keep a sticky status. Mods might be willing to help maintain (I'm not volunteering anyone, FYI), but don't expect them to do it only by themselves.

You misunderstood his post Magicman. He was saying that Potjeh's intervention here affected the game when he saved a user from being ganked. In my opinion that's not a big deal -- posting on the forum is a collective experience and it Should effect the game. Clearly others have a different opinion on the subject and think that mods should not be allowed to change anything. Once again, I'm likely in the minority.

Ah, referring to that. Gotcha. I don't really consider that "changing the landscape". One instance in a game hardly makes for anything game changing... :|

how about you give me one instance of your Hearth Secret and we will see if it changes your game :). Again this is probably in the realm of perspective but I can assure you that alerting players to things that would end in either the destruction or their character or their town is game changing for at least that killer and killee.

But onto a serious question for Magicman and Techx who, from at least my perspective have caused infinitely less complaints and drama than their less ethical counterparts. Do you guys feel that between the two of you, Moo, and maybe Sevenless that you guys would be incapable of handling and moderating a forum of maybe 50-100 active posters? I'm curious if you feel you guys needed help or not because from my perspective we have plenty of neutral and talented moderators such as yourselves. I mean heck just look at TechX posting history. Almost every single post has been helpful and/or some kind of deserved moderation. Whats your guys thoughts? Could you guys handle it?

P.S. Both MagicMan and TechX have both issued warnings and banned me in the past and I can happily say that it was a pleasurable experience both times as they clearly articulated their concerns through the whole process. So my opinion isn't biased based on who waves the ban stick but more on how it is wielded and how it effects the general feel of the community.

Oh no, some guy loses his 30 minute old character after he spent all that time putting on his priestly robe and pilgrim's hat. :(

Game changing ****.
