It is boring, because the game is dead population-wise. Interacting with other people is an important part of MMORPGs. If the world feels pretty dead, it becomes very boring. The best suggestion to date to spice things up, is the "gambling in Boston" idea that was previously presented.

Change the influence bar to 25% increase per harvest while making the drop on other bars slightly less and remove hay/lime buffs. Then, have plenty increase as you go up in tiers. Leave Coal speed for people who want to grind their fields hard but remove other bonuses.
You'll have to rotate your crops more often to keep the influence but you'll save on gathering hay and porting lime (which shouldn't even be a thing in the first place).

I can agree with this it's to much work for to little reward, but I think with the new tiered food system its a lot less work than what it used to be.

Yes, because the only real grind is gettig your fields up to tier 3. Once they're there, keeping that up will be a piece of cake. No more craptons of hay needed, you can now spend all time used to make hay, on digging lime XD
Did Claeyt shut up yet?

True if you play alone.

Spend some time smelting iron to make braziers, go check some old stumps. Help a character get artifact slotting stats to make you some good clothing. Tier up your fields and put in some damn effort because you have ZERO idea of the amount of effort required pre-farming apocalypse to grind 0-100% cabbage/pumpkin purity.

That was mine point since plymouth started, near year ago, then same thing after roa started, but problem is with some people that are plying this game only to slow you down and destroy from inside :(

Anyways if anyone would want to try this PM me, I got idea for spy-proof-town-design, but I am too lazy to make it work alone ;)

Every casual player getting the impression that something from op does matter will instantly quit playing Salem as there is no chance someone with rl will ever be able to play salem on a competitve way.

which is the case for any game I know of. If the other guy spends twice as much time on Salem as you do, why do you expect to be able to compete with him? I don't spend a lot of time on Salem (although it has picked up a bit lately :) ), but I fully understand that means I will never be a top player. I also don't care.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I feel the same way Kandarim. I will never be a top player, because I would never be able to put in in hours and grinding that is needed to reach any where near the top. You can however still have lots of fun without being one of the top 5%, more so, as you wont have to grind.

I farm, I hunt, I explore, I build. I have a lovely farm and home with friends set up and growing around me. I have connections with other players and villages for both trade and random chatting. My humors are gradually growing, my tiers are slowly rising and my purity is making its first baby steps.

Enjoy the GAME, there is no ending, there is no goal, there is only the journey.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Even playing with a group its boring as all hell. There is zero depth to the game other then how much food you can eat, planting trees, chopping trees, coal and brazier making.
