(They would also have x2 or bigger playerbase from non pvp worlds, and none of this will stop the pvp world from ever growing from the pvp dedicated / hardcore players).

Exactly my point, newbies will learn how to play in time and they will become bloodthirsty like any other hardcore player here :D

EDIT:
Potjeh wrote:The main issue is that a proper non PvP server would take a metric ***** of effort, and it'd be unrecognizable as the same game in the end. You can't simply take the current game and remove the black skills, because it'd be a griefer's paradise. It wouldn't take long before every settlement's gates were blocked with unassailable walls, for example.

People will learn to have their claims larger than walls, without waste you can't build on someones claim, right?

You still just need 4 narrow claims and a wood fence to enclose any settlement. Going bigger isn't exactly a solution, as the cost of expanding a claim rises a lot faster than the cost of surrounding it.

*edit* Actually, scratch that, you don't even need a fence since entering a claim requires one to turn on criminal acts, which wouldn't be possible on this server.

my idea was to leave the criminal acts but remove the permadeath with a softer solution

Like many others i wouldn't play this type, but it is interesting for those who are afraid of permadeath, but still would want to raid.

That's even more of a griefer's paradise, as they could go and wreck settlements without fear of retribution.

Just make personal claims like town claim or leave tresspass.
There were suggestions about claim decay?
You can always build town bell and declaim 4 narrow claims as it is possible in current server.

Non-pvp server imho shouldn't change this game into farmiville only be something like "training camp" for newbies, tresspass and larceny shouldn't be removed, so people could learn why build walls and close gates.

Are we seriously considering a non-permadeath server?

People should just stop being immature little pricks and killing newbies for lulz.

Yea that is one point of view, but you forgot that games are not only for mature people with 120+ IQ.
Devs forgot that games are not forum drama, politics and spying driven, but FUN driven and most of their current customers are not ready for their point of view.
It is like with tablets and other touch devices 15 years ago, there were companies that created TABLETS back then, but people and market wasn't ready for them.
Perma death games are same right now, most of people doesn't see any good things that came with perma death and they simply quit when get murdered and robbed (like OP?). Salem need something between Devs great idea and current ****** crafting mmo's when people will learn about advantages of revenge freedom then perma death will be more common in game market.
