I think Obama is a hypocrite for speaking out about the situation...everything Putin as done is Obama's wet dream here in the US. How can the two be at odds? Obama is speaking for the formality only... and Putin knows it.
You asked for my take- I'd say Obama is filling the role of the idignant ruler... but he's really not that concerned... and less said the better... humm, who, now... can make a bigger splash and leave (Obama) out of it.. Clinton Library maybe... or continuing failure in Iran... helped by same Russians...we want to crucify...
