I already left Salem for HnH. It was HnH that brought me to Salem in the first place, and I always kept a soft spot for my first love - the old/2d/ugly/whatever HnH. Well to be fair I was never much of a Salem player, I returned for the expeditions thinking they will ofer some new faster paced gameplay. Unfortunately I was wrong. Still the same grindfest. I actualy left Salem long before HnH launched, after all my friends on Popham disappeared 1 by 1, leaving me all alone in a huge town.

Now I play HnH and I love every second of it. I have two accounts and still have free time on both (not a hardocre player), but as soon as the time will finish I will activate both accounts (a 1 time 15usd payment) and will never go out of time. It's my way to support the devs for years of free entertainment. I was too reluctant at first, when I saw the shop. Paying for a subcription in alpha state - not even Blizzard could pull that one off. My main concern was not the money, since I can afford them, but the fact that I will play on an empty game, since people will run away. It is not the case. Even the devs were suprised by the succes of the shop, and they stated that will put all their effort in the development of the game. So far they released updates twice/week. Servers are never under 400players. So far the game is awesome. Sure there are bugs, but gameplay is solid. If they keep the same pace I will play their game forever. I even consider subscribing to offer more the most of my support (and get a hat of course)

On last thing about the HnH shop. Cosmetic items are account bound and you can never lose them to other players or to the environment. I have to state this because it has to do with the main reason I suddenly left Salem. I had some cosmetic items on Salem from mystery boxes that I have paid before, stored on an inactive character. I lost them without a possibility to do anything about it when the looting of sleepers in undefended leantos was implemented. Someone found my deep asleep character somewhere in the woods and stole everything. I always played Salem with huge gaps of inactivity (months, maybe even a year) between my playing sessions. I lost a lot due to this inactivity - claims, houses, stuff, character development, even friends, etc. But I was always ok with the fact that I can always come back whenever I want to play again with my asleep admiral hat/peacock mask wearing pilgrim and start fresh. I am ok that you can lose store items due to your actions in game, with the possibility to take action against it (defend, hide, run, fight, etc.), but losing them while inactive put me off bigtime. I will not buy anything from the store ever again because I cannot commit to play just so that I can protect my valued items
.

As time goes on, im still more and more tempted to try HnH2.0

This was one of the stunners for me tbh, even though i never tried popham all the people i spoke too mentioned the same progression, yet it was suppose to be a pvp hardcore server.

I was expecting x2 glutton speeds, x2 faster gathering speeds, 50% building materials required etc etc etc.

Meh,

Mostly it was PvP because of the easy travel times (1/10th the size) and cannons.

Been playing HnH since the new launch, slowly at first, but now has its claws in me pretty deep. The game is good and updates/patches/content are added more than once a week. Playing 2 characters and neither has run out of time yet, but I will subscribe when needed simply for the fun i've had thus far. Gameplay is similar yet different (only tried it briefly before this) and quite intense and I like the direction it seems to be heading. (the graphics are just icing on the cake) Oddly enough, and I can't explain it, people want to work together there. I am approached constantly while roaming and asked if I want to team up (interesting) something I don't see as much of in Salem. And while the pvp is very very real, the forums/community is not nearly as abrasive. Just my to cents

Updates consist of the addittion of small items and mainly bug fixes. Since the updates are so small in time they will eventually hit a wall with anything, and as they have always done, implement a partial feature or abandon completely to focus on something else. I doubt they can add anything interesting/game changing/meaningul to a game with programmer art they completed years ago, except ofc, ripoff some of the salem code, like fireplaces.

What you see with the community in game is because the server only started, you don't see anyone with murder skills or russians griefing anyone, which will eventually happen and make your everyday carebear ragequit. So, yeah, pvp isn't very very real as you said, because not everyone is capable of griefing yet

No actually the community for the most part is friendly and will go out of their way to help people.

You can grief in MANY ways on this game and it does happen. I'm not sure if you know this or not but they wouldn't be ripping code off salem for a fireplace.

They already have a job, dont need another one. Plus they don't specialize in reviving things.
