Exactly, the developers don't actually care because it just means one of their streamers ends up being perceived as "popular" which means more popularity for them. There are not 100+ real people silently watching this guy shoot a laser at some rocks in EVE, don't be so ridiculous.

You guys are idiots.

He's said here, on stream and on many other occasions that he streams for a gaming site and off of his personal website. The viewers are from the gaming site and his site. They see only him on screen streaming stuff, they don't see chat, they don't see anything else. It goes through Twitch but is off of his personal website. I also think he said that the steam is sometimes also picked up by other mmo/gaming sites and the Eve sites if something important is going on. I think he's on the Eve-online fansite when he's streaming Eve.

His website is right on his Twitch page. Most big Twitch streamers do it this way so they can control their marketing and sell merch and other stuff. Twitch is just what they stream through, it's not their main way of getting viewers or their main site.

More interesting is what's going to happen when Twitch gets some major competition when YouTube's gaming stream service goes live soon.
