It should be, "straight up, man."
And while we're here, to be serious, there is no difference between "st8 up man","strait up man", and "straight up, man". All of those phrases are slang. If the "man" was to take any of them literally, then he would look up above his head, yet none of these phrases mean that. If you are correct in your statement about the grammar nazi, then he is a big ***** and doesn't know what he's talking about.
