Is there any difference between the beds, like that the Leafy Bed doesn't while the others do? Or at least decrease insanity very slowly. Because I have experienced gaining a madness level just minutes after waking up… Even if it was just 4-5 hours bed rest, that seemed very suspicious. And TotalyMeow apparently had been informed they had been patched to not reduce insanity anymore. So things are being rather confusing atm in my opinion. :/

I haven`t got any problems with reducing insanity in bed, even when i play for a long-long session (and i play in darkness, where seeing **** drives you crazy).
I assume that when you sleep with teddybear - you DO NOT reduce insanity, only madness.

One of the benefits of madness to a new player is the reduced chance they will be murdered by a veteran. Murder and Scalping cause a great deal of insanity. A veteran is less likely to murder a non-threatening person if they are thinking about madness levels and do not want to die from them. So a titan rolling into town and murdering an entire village of new or low bile characters is now less likely to happen. A titan would be annoyed to have to carry large amounts of tea and tobacco just to kill all the members of a village.

Overall I have never had issues with madness. Study a meat shred, make a couple crucifixes, or pet a pig or something. Not a hard mechanic to avoid. And very rewarding if you are the one placing the person in the stockades for robbing you or they are big enough punks to try and leave their character online constantly so you cant put them in the stockades you know they have to work for what they took or die from it. If you stole my plague mask and lost your 100-200 bile thief alt to do so then W/E you have fun with that plague mask.

Trust me when I say that madness has zero impact on people murdering.

Thanks for clarifying, I didn't see anything in the patchnotes so the other guy must have pulled that out of his ass.

To the OP: you sound like you're getting madness too quickly. It's either you're cursed, you're not doing the things you say you are, or it's a bug affecting only some people for whatever reason.

Gee thanks. :/ No, I didn't 'pull it out of my ass'. John told me he was changing it from one to the other. If he's saying differently now, then he must have changed his mind and left insanity reduction in.

i have read all i can find on the subject and am 100% sure its not me that's doing something wrong. I whittle daily, fish, pick flowers, hunt butterflies but it does not help at all it just keeps increasing, the teadybears are super hard to get( for beginners ) and the tool tip does not even hint at items ability to lower madness lvl as for tobacco expensive and takes to long to get

so let me say it once more. Just because the old players know their way around the game and therefore "working as intended" doesn't mean that the mechanic is balanced properly for new players
please dev's reconsider and revamp madness gain and mitigation

You clearly are not doing those things if your madness level is going up. Doing all of this will lower your insanity and should never get any madness. That or maybe you are doing something else to bring it back up.

I spent yesterday roasting 30+ meat items and studying several inspirationals, and did none of the insane things, except dissecting one frog, and still got a madness level. At first, I thought it was a glitch, but today, my character decided to put on nettle undies, and the masks are different.

you have madness that you need to deal with. there are 2 different factors when it comes to madness
