April 7th EXTENDED Downtime

Postby JohnCarver » Tue Apr 07, 2015 8:33 am

Greetings Salemites,
Three of the 6 Crashes today have proven to be a bit problematic. While some were simple like players trying to unslot artifices (using scissors) on a crown of thorns etc. A few have been a bit more troublesome. This latest crash is one of the more problematic ones. We are once again at a little crossroads here, I could most likely 'brute force' through this one, causing a several hour rollback, and 'hope' that we crash in a more meaningful way where the player affected could give me a bit more direction on the who/what/how/why it happened. Unfortunately, I've been frantically playing the test server to replicate some of these crashes, and I just can't seem to do whatever it is y'all seem to be doing.

Instead, I think that it is for the best for all Salemites if we stop the bumpy road here and do not put you through the frustration of a rollback and the item-loss item-duping that can occasionally occur by the different save-states of various tiles at the restore point.

By giving us 8-10 Hours on this (Time of day considered for this crash), it should afford us the opportunity to not only restore the current server-state in a way that wouldn't require a rollback, but hopefully give us the time required to gather a more-precise understanding of exactly what is caused about 50% of the crashes today.

Sorry for the downtime :(.

Meaningful? I don't do meaningful. I do inconsequential.
