Can someone from the experienced and so very old players maybe explain, what the purpose of MMO would be if not to find a group and play together?

In almost every topic that has been opened during the last 3-4 weeks, people who are new to the game try to find a group, try to form a group or just point out that they do not want to play alone. The experienced players jump in and tell them that they are going to die soon [in addition to telling them how stupid, noob or young they are]. I understand that this is sadly the truth. Nevertheless in each topic I wonder what kind of useful advice you would give a new player then.

The game mechanics is retarded in that being killed by anyone right from the start is not only possible but basically a must go through. Instead of enabling players to get used to the mechanics in a more or less save environment they are dropped into a pit of nasty scalp hunters who enjoy to lure noobs into death by leading them out of boston, etc. [this has nothing to do with the age, it is related to how your personal nature is - trusting or suspicous]

I would really like to join a group, but having experienced death on my second day I rather do not want to get close to any other players anymore. This will likely lead to boredom and leaving the game after some time. But just forcing me to find people [with the new concept of specialization] - who in the end likely kill me anyway - is not a mechanic I understand.

Dinoxx, I would join your group with a newly created Character. As the one I build during the last weeks is to precious at this time to offer him to a general public outside of boston. :)

Kind Regards

Gromar

So you do not realise that this guy is a stupid idiot who tells bad jokes, gets annoyed over everything and insults you randomly?
He is also not new, just a noob that's gonna die.

Not all the older players do this out of toxicity. Newbies should be aware that this is the reality of Salem right now. Preparation is important to limit losses.
Unfortunately the game is stacked rather heavily against co-op between strangers. I'm not sure what the devs could possibly do about this either. It'd only take one dedicated griefer to ruin co-op for a ton of people. Anything preventing attacks from within is likely to be just as, if not more so, effective against pvp from outside. As such it's difficult to implement.

On top of that, in any strongly efford-based game like this there will always be varying degrees of usefulness in a group. In the end many will simply feel they contribute more and get less than others causing friction that can cause a group to fall apart even if none of the players started out with the intention of griefing.

It takes a lot of trust and reliability to properly co-op in Salem. It's difficult to find this amongst strangers. Because of this it's hard to get to trust anyone which means most people you deal with will be strangers.
There's no easy solution to this, the simple ones all come with major downsides.
1) Limitting the losses that can be inflicted, which means removing permadeath which is not an option.
2) Preventing people from doing damage, which means severely restricting what people can do to eachother, which is again not an option.

I personally think more fine-grained options to grant people permissions might be useful in alleviating this, but in the end anyone you work with will still inevitably be able to hurt you. This fact combined with the way certain members of this community are completely dedicated to screwing over everyone they can and it becomes pretty much impossible to trust newer players with anything.

Looks like you have more in common than you realize.
